It' going to be my new thaumic lab for my research. It's perfect as it's right on top of a huge aura node that I have encased so whips don't escape(or anything else). Took about 2 hours to get this far. It's going to be alot taller like a wizard's tower. So far I only have 4 finished floors and the design on he outside. I'm really happy at how it looks thus far. I have no idea how I'm going to top it but I'll worry when I get there.

EDITED: I have added more floors since this was posted and I'm now on the top few floors I will soon convert into research labs.

Not bad. Btw I am not entirely sure which mod adds it, but there in Unleashed there is also Sandstone Bricks available. Might work nicely in combination with Smooth sandstone. Not sure how it looks with default texture pack, but it looks rather nice with Soartex.
 
I'm using unleashed and I don't use any texture packs so we'll see how it looks normally. If you think that looks good you should see desert I used to collect all of that!

I prefer to make a flat desert mystcraft world for all my mining, that way the overworld is not ruined.
 
I have no idea how to properly use mystcraft. I've tried to watch tutorials and they still don't work for me. If anyone can explain it a bit better it would be much appreciated.

Yeah its a bit complicated and the mechanics for using pages to get certain effects is really crude. You basically have to know exactly what syntax/order to put which pages in, along with what effect each page actually have(some of them are really not that obvious). In the last weeks I have posted an order for a decent mining age several times here on this forum. Ill see if I can dig them out.

A few of the pages have changed names from 1.4.7 to 1.5. Noon is now Zenith.

Cool build. Did you build it in creative, or did you really kill withers for all of the beacons? It looks like you have one set in each floor.

I think its the same one from the lowest floor, just shining through each floor through a glass block in the middle.
 
It's only the one on top of the pyramid. I did make a few extra without looking and I'm still mad at myself for it. I have an uncrafting table but I decided they might look nice with one on some of those floors. I don't have one of the 5th floor as you can see it to easily. Yes I did farm those it's not hard to do just encase the wither in something he can destroy like obsidian. Should I just use glass or do those beacons look nicer?

Ehm you using the beacon blocks on their own? I assumed it was just glass since there was no pyramid structure under them. I would just use glass and use the beacons for other things. Maybe 4 small outlying satellites around the main tower? That could look nice.
 
Oh btw, saw you were using Nitor as lightsources. I chose to do the same for a egyptian style temple I built but it bugged me that they were sort of just hovering over a normal block. So cut a couple of hollow slabs and put a pillar of black wool in the middle to make it kinda look like a brazier:

Does this look better? I removed those beacons and replaced them with warded glass. I chose that glass for the design and the fact this is going to be a thaumic lab.

Hmm I would move the beacons further out and make a little sandstone structure to house them. So they stand alone out a bit from the main tower.
 
I can use the main support beams for that. I was thinking about expanding them out a big it would make more room on the main platform. I'm gonna need it if I want to make my enderman mob grinder close by and a few other spawners.

EDITED: I expand the supports and the platform. I also made 5 more floors making that a total of 9 floors on the verge of 10. I think I'll stop at 10 since it's an even number and I still need to get back to my research. Also I looked at your suggestion for the desert world. There is no noon anywhere. I even looked in the creative book. So do I just leave that out?

As I mentioned Noon has been replaced by the page Zenith. Same effect, different name.
 
Funny I was watching a tutorial that I had not seen and direwolf said that I must have been to busy getting the book ready to hear it.

EDITED: So the sand book did not work right the first time. I have no idea what I did wrong but the second was great. The lava world gave me slowness and fatigue but also have crystal tendrils and nether fortresses. After I made it and went to it I had soo much lag that I could just barely get around with short render distance. So I'm likely not going back once I have something set up. BTW thank you for the info and suggestions.

You can bury that magnum torch a couple blocks down so it doesn't spoil the look of your base (nitor works, the torch kinda throws it off a bit). To be fair, it's nit-picking, and a great looking build overall.
 
It's taken me a bit to get things together but I'm happy to announce that my build is finished. I've edited my album
