you should be using java 6 not 7.

Problem is though a lot of people are unable to downgrade form java 6 to 7.

Actually no... Using this official method supported by apple - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US. Ive trained this many times to no avail so i made a thread to see if someone could help me - https://discussions.apple.com/message/20577146#20577146 but got no replys. So i managed to contact a java expert that works for my fathers company and she couldnt figure it out either. If you can then great job but if you cant not every mac user is able to.

Not that I can recall and how would that effect Java? Sorry if its a stupid question.

I don't know, but there were a few reports of an update to xprotect (I think) that is causing issues.

It is called gatekeeper for the latest version of OSX.
