my feed the beast crashes when i try to use a resource pack or optifine HELP

when ever i try to install optifine or a resource pack for the mod packs i use (direwolf 20 1.6.4 and horizons) they always crash. maybe i am installing they wrong. i use a macbook pro. if someone can tell me how to properly install resource packs and optifine for the 1.6.4 packs it would be greatly appreciated

Oh but what about the resource packs it still crashed when I use resource packs[DOUBLEPOST=1387827784][/DOUBLEPOST]Even when in try to use em without optifine. Like when I turn the resource pack on in the minecraft menu it crashes[DOUBLEPOST=1387827917][/DOUBLEPOST]Also I use the sphax pure BDcraft resource pack for direworlf 20 mod pack for minecraft 1.6.4. If that is any help
