So I'm going to try and see what it would be like if JC didn't like me and I'm going to do a play through of MF2. I tried horizons before and didn't like the experience. Most of my disapproval was mostly from the absence of mod explanation for a majority of the mods in the pack. Well, felt a bit of a challenge. Noticed that there where a few people that were playing it that knew about the new mods, so maybe it wouldn't frustrate me as much.

World setup was Random world gen, set for Large Biome, set for hard. I like that there were so many less controls to configure (+) probably less tech. Got seed: -2664818752462320066
spawned on the edge of a forest biome and plains. Fairly close was a large village with alot of different stuff (bees too) at -175, 350. Didn't realize until after about an hour or so that the village was actually sitting ontop of a Barrow Hill. Kinda unsettling really.

Things Initially that took me off guard: People are going to scream about food, but the two other things I found were more important were attaining wool immediately and tools. Wool to make a bed is the only thing that will keep you alive long enough to worry about starving to death. Still just starting, but apparently your life will revolve around gravel and flint for a while as TiC is very restricted on what is used for tools. No stone anything. TiC is your only way of making tools for what looks like for a while as well. and yes collect everything you see on the ground. Then plant what ever you can. Don't be selective or consolidate. Just plant it and eat the rest. Everything is nerfed down as far as food goes. Make the ground your storage for the billion different seeds/fruits/etc.

First off is to clear cut trees and start a tree plot. Being that I'm going to cover a village, I want to secure it (trap all the big noses inside a lit enclosed building, hold them there until I can build a more suitable villager common building), Light it up, and put my L shaped fence around the village and my 3x3 chunk plot ensure that nothing gets in. See if you put up a 2 level wall or fence you keep everything out but the spiders and the spider creepers so you put an additional outside lip so they can't crawl over. Big first project and going to need alot of wood.

Hopefully next I can start figureing out what I'm going to do for further tools. This modpack is pretty personalized I'm finding, so going to have alot of questions.

-If I have leveled up a sorry little flint pick to copper, and I decide I'm going to grow up and make a better pick, do I lose the level earned from the flint pick?

Pretty sure you can directly replace parts and keep the mods/exp. Jaded did a video on a bunch of this stuff iirc.

I don't think you can upgrade your flint pick. Last time I tried you needed the entire pick made out of metal. You can upgrade it from there though.

You can switch parts of the flint pick just as any other pick. It will not, however, get an additional mining level with XP.

You should get a smeltery going as soon as possible so you can get metal pick heads, allowing you to start the TiC progression. There is no need to make the entire pick out of metal, but the again there is no need not to. Just keep in mind that tools need to be fully repaired before you can switch parts, and that you will permanently loose any part you replace.

I think pam's also add berries like tinker's do, though they can't be replanted as easily. however, collect as many of these berries as you can, as you can turn them into some sort of drink that actually heals more then just simply eating the berry. I think the tool that you need is made out of stone and a pressure plate or something...

I found this out after I spend a few days ingame and started losing food fast

K... so a zombie is throwing potions at me and I die. Hmmm... that's going to be a problem later. That aside how do tombstones work? Do I get my stuff or is it lost?

Got real worried when I could find everything but my tools around the death site. I didn't know anything about graves. But its actually cool in that it will save some things from despawning. You have to pick axe the tombstone or dig underneath the tombstone to get your stuff. Seems that you might want to break open any graves as there is a chance of undead respawn from it.

2 planks make a drying rack -turn useless zombie flesh into food
Along with the juicer mentioned above are other cooking tools this harvest craft guide has info.
cook bread for toast adds more value easily.
Its much easier with a village, or you cant plant until an all copper mattock is made to till dirt which takes a while!
Fence costs more too!
