So I'm derping around with the DW20 pack doing a creative build just to see what I can build.
First I dug out a 32x32 hole with a quarry down to bedrock in an ocean, built glass walls anywhere there is air or water so I have shaft, layed down sand to y level 8 then xycraft brick to y level 10.
Constructed 4 max size HP boilers running on coal coke powering 72 Industrial steam engines in stacks of 9 for mj production feeding 4 banks of 22 redstone energy cells each. 1 9x9x7 railcraft tank for lava storage with nether lava pump feeding 32 geothermal generators feeding EU to 16 MFSUs. 10 Coke ovens making coal coke and feeding creosote oil into a 9x9x7 tank. 25 Thermopiles making Blutricity and 64 RP2 batt boxes to store the power. Still have a long way to go before I will be close to finished considering the I an building from the bottom up and have not even made it y level 62 yet. Each floor is lit by 25 wrathlamps and is about 12 blocks high.
I don't have any screenshots yet but I may post some if there is interest.

So who thinks I went a little overboard on power generation for this SSP map?

Mods: If this is in the wrong forum then I apologize. Feel free to move this to the correct area.

UPDATE: Pictures of the work in progress posted below.

UPDATE: Did more work on this build and added more pictures of my progress. Also changed to the John Smith Technician's Remix texture pack, I think it makes the build look even better and the glass is nearly invisible, a plus for this build since I used a lot of it so far.

Hehehe
I sure don't think you went overboard at all. I don't even think that's 600 mj. And 25 thermopiles is not all too necessary unless you're planning to power a Engine, in which case it's not nearly enough. For your geo gens, 640 eu/t? I think that is barely enough to power a Mass Fab and a couple machines.

What you could do is biofuel for 5 boilers, use turbines or solar panels for BT, and simply use 1 or 2 nuclear setups for more energy and less room.

I'm planning to add solar and wind to the top and maybe the sides when I get the rest of the tower built, for now it is just a shaft from y level 65 down to 8. I'm thinking of taking it to between 165 & 240. Top 100 I'm thinking of using for T5 soul shard spawners for all the mobs, plus adding turrets (kind of like the towers in twilight forest) to use for different farms.

Just wondering, do you like creative building? I could never get the hang of it, it seems no fun for me. It just seems too...boring. I can see myself testing builds (if I could get a world up), but playing? I can't see it. Unless you're planning out a build you're going to do in the future, but even then I wouldn't go into as much detail as you have done. But this would be a pretty cool survival build. It would have been cool if it were on the borders of a few biomes, for beekeeping.

I build like this to get used to how the mods work and interact with each other and simply put, I don't get the time I would need most of the time to do this in survival. The amount of time and resource gathering needed to pull off what I have planned is insane. I'm using a forest worth of Ebony wood for floors and stairs and about a diamond chest worth of light and dark xycorium bricks for the bottom floor, not to mention about a diamond chest or 2 of glass already and I'm maybe 1/5 done. Gonna build a Frame machine just to build walls of the tower from where it is now (y=65) all the way up to about y 235. I'm planning to add farms and mob spawners through out the top 1/2 of the tower. As for the bees, I don't really get into them much but may add Mystcraft portals to different biomes. I know I want to make one floor maybe two nothing but mystcraft portals leading to different places in the world including maybe to each floor of the tower itself. As for the question about if I like creative building the answer is a yes, while I don't have the talent to build like some builders (such as Sjin for Yogscast), I do like to see what I can make with the more exotic blocks added by the different mods in the game. I may need to move over to the ultimate pack due to all the new stuff that has been added compaired to the DW20 pack.

This seems like a "second/third base" to me! :D Can't Fillers do what you're trying to get the frame machines to do? If you could get some automatic mining up, this build seems truly possible in survival, though a lot of work.

Well the power production seems a little anemic to me in my world (before I managed to corrupt it, love alpha\beta mods) I had 2 36HP's on fuel\biofuel powering my lasers (35) and my BC requiring non-processing machinery, a 36LP on charcoal powering my extra bees setup (all the boilers had the max number of industrials connected) my EU needs were provided by 34 thermal gens\3 adv solars (had another 32 thermals built and ready to setup when I stuffed the world) which powered my Gregtech\RP2 processing\sorting setup and my matter fab. I also had 2 RP2 wind turbines (mostly for looks damn they produce bugger-all power)
This was in a "floating pyramid" 42x43 main floor with 3 lower floors of 32x33\22x23\13x12, built of glass (top half of the pyramid) and basalt brick\stone brick rest of the lower floors and the rest of the pyramid. I had 4 secondary 9x9 pyramids (basalt\redrock\stone bricks\glass) for my Blaze spawner and bees.
All built legitimately in survival, took a couple weeks then whammo corrupted it and my last backup was a little too long ago, so I started a new world (was time to anyway really I'd added a couple of mods that had worldgen stuff and it was getting a bit annoying jumping over to Myst ages to get that).

Well I was hoping to use frames just cause they are COOL :D, but It's a no go. Can't get it to work, oh well time to pull out the fillers. Got some screenshots of what is done so far gonna work on getting them posted so others can see my hole in the ground (ocean).

Added more shots of my build to my Imgur Album.

The walls are up as well as a few more items added to improve the appearance of the place. Still need to add the sorting and auto smelting system in as well as the Mystcraft portals and workshop spaces. Got the main power lines for Blutricity, EU, and MJ Run for the tower. It is now an actual tower going all the way to the world limit instead of just a hole in the ocean.

I did this in survival :p
Sounds like overkill but still cool. Always love the thought of glass house under water

I got it from watching Sjin's lets build evil fortress videos on youtube.
For the size I made build a 1 block pillar of whatever material you like as tall as you want your spiral to go. If you plan to use lava make sure not to use wood (some people will derp on this). Around the pillar make a 5x5 hollow tube the same height as the pillar, again use whatever you like. Inside make 2 sets stairs going up around the pillar. Once you have all of that built just add 1 bucket of whatever liquid you like (oil, water, lava) on the second step down to each of the 2 staircases, then cap off the top how you like.

Top-down view:
x=block
o=air space

Bottom layer

Layer 1
x x o o x
x o x o x
x o o x x

Layer 2
x o x o x
x o x o x
x o x o x

Layer 3
x o o x x
x o x o x
x x o o x

Layer 4
x o o o x
x o o o x

Build each layer going up repeating layers 1-4 in order.
You can reverse the orders of the layers to spiral the other direction.

On a side note, ya I know its overkill on the build but I like it.
