My Anti Virus said FTB Launcher is a virus

I'm just as confused. Updated it this morning, relaunched it without trouble and played for a few hours. Came back about 20 minutes ago and Norton's decided that it's a dangerous virus that must be deleted immediately.

I'm guessing that it's another overly broad virus definition that deletes things that are harmless.

Yep same this today, I got back from work and hit the link. Norton decided on an instant delete. Can't download either as it keeps being auto deleted.

I agree that it is likely the Norton definition update that was updated this morning but I have been burned before. Any ideas?

If Norton's listed it as a virus, there's not a lot that FTB can do short of getting in contact with Norton themselves.

For now, you can help by using this link to report a false positive: https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

This link has a set of instructions for adding an exception: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090206180216AAq20wO
Even though those instructions are for Norton 2009, I imagine it should help you find your way to the right place to do so in the version you have.

Unfortunately I don't have Norton so I can't test any of this. If any of this doesn't work, reply with the specific version of Norton you have, and which OS you have.

Lastly, ensure that you're downloading the launcher from www.feed-the-beast.com

Actually I had already reported it as a false positive before finding this link, and tried re-downloading it from the main site. Just after I got an email with you post I also got a response from Norton.

Email as follows

"In relation to submission [3458644].

Upon further analysis and investigation we have verified your submission and as such this detection will be removed from our products.

The updated detection will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions, available via LiveUpdate or from our website at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html

Decisions made by Symantec are subject to change if alterations to the Software are made over time or as classification criteria and/or the policy employed by Symantec changes over time to address the evolving landscape."

So hopefully that took care of it. :)

I had the worst problem ever. I ran the launcher (exe) and a window showed up. It said "basecsp has stopped working". Then when I ended a process called
DW20.exe it spawned 3 more of the virus. Then it used up 100% of the cpu usage and my pc froze. Apparently that was explorer.exe. My Anti-Virus (Norton) said plz restart yo computer. So norton tried to restart the computer for me and i had to force shutdown because it wouldnt restart. I had to delete a directory called DW20. Thanks to computercraft i knew how to go into folders using the command prompt. Anyone else got the same problem?

There's a legit DW20.exe that's unrelated to minecraft -- the real one is Windows Application Error Reporting Tool for Microsoft Office.

Not to say you don't have a virus posing as that -- I searched my computer and don't have any folders called DW20, just the windows app (DW20.exe) scattered around.

FWIW, you may want to supplement Norton with a manual scan from the free version Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.org/
