I wonder, If you put a layer on the bottom-most section of a multifarm, and then another at the topmost, And use it all for wheat or veggies, would it tend to both layers?

Can't get on right now to test, wondering if anyone else has.

Yep it certainly looks that way in 2.0.0.9 you can have 2 layers of the same farm and it certainly plants both and they both grow, it's going to take a while before I find out if they harvest and re-plant.

Edit - seems to be ignoring the bottom level, not harvesting or re-planting

Multi layer farms has always been a exploit and unintended feature that could not be removed due to the manner in which the old farms worked. As was said above part of the reason for changing to the new farms was to fix that exploit and re balance farm output.

But to need 27 electron tubes for one farm seems very stupid. And thats just for the basic blocks not the gear box etc...[DOUBLEPOST=1360698653][/DOUBLEPOST]lol I mean 36-100 tin electron tubes

I hardly ever used the old farms. They were a bit to clunky and buggy for me to honestly get much use out of. So getting them to do more then one layer was never a concern of mine. I only even wondered if you could do it with these due to the height.
I guess i missed out on something OP.

The new ones are rather straight foreward, and much easier for me personally to use.

Can't really call the old farms an exploit when you have Steve Carts which out "farms" the old farms. Sengir simply didn't like the way they created so much farm produce and it's his perogative to change them if he so wishes. I like the old and new farms and when I start recording the new series on Forestry you'll see just how versatile they are. I've spent the last 3 days tearing the farms apart and reconstructing them in ways that isn't written or shown anywhere, I myself, was quite surprised.

My only wish now for the new farms is to allow them to be hollow.

I wanna hide all my power and such inside the multiblock.

Just inset the farm into the ground and use the top layer for the farm with all the wiring/pipes under it.

Since the new farms require a structural floor anyway, it only makes sense to hide the suport infrastructure down below it. i quite like that you can hide everything from view.

So when I update, my 2 layer cactus and 2 layer reed farms will be broken?

Yet another good reason to delay updating...

Is that only working on the bottom layer cos those things break automatically when they have something above the 3rd layer?

The old forestry farms should still function for a while, he's only disabled crafting them by default for now (and you can put them in a crafting area to convert them to X number of multifarm blocks that I forget the exact number of off-hand). Probably by Forestry 2.2.x.x they'll be fully gone, but until then you can still update without worrying about your old farms spontaneously breaking.

Not broken, but depending on the config you may not be able to create new "old" farms. But again, that's just config and if you control the config can be changed.

At some point in the future, the old farms will be removed, or simply die from lack of updated code, but they haven't been yet.
