Hello, gentlemen.
I am forced to ask your opinion again, fine noblemen, about a problem that is definitely devouring my mind.
Which map type should i pick for a long-lasting enjoying and playful experience in the Monster Modpack?
Default (with all biomes from mods available), Biomes O' Plenty, Highlands or ATG?
Or should i instead directly aim my inner thoughts to a custom map MOD-ready like Eldaria or something related?
Care to aid a poor paesant like me to pick a decision?
Thank you in advance.

Indeed, this is obviously the best choice.
Aren't the biomes from BOP a bit buggy with ATG, however?
The game keeps spamming these goddamn quagmires o' shit.
I don't usually mind the graphic aspect of Minecraft (grew a bit used to it) but for christ's sake, i can't stand that piss-water at all.
Is this a bug or just a badly written feature?

I am a huge highlands fan. Ive been using it since 1.4.7.. Everything about it is better than BOP in my opinion especially the tree design, they are perfect. Sure, theres more biomes and more color to BOP but it tries to do too much. It also causes me out of memory crashes when i use that worldtype. Highlands is more humble and realistic. BUT you must make sure to disable the three mountain biomes because they are bugged.

I misinterpreted the title, I had hoped this thread was a question about which of the assorted MAPPING mods people are using with Monster, because I miss the mapping mod that was used for Direwolf 1.6 modpack and I'm too clueless to figure out if it's still in Monster. I'm just not good with this modding stuff, which is why I play it thru FTB so I don't have to deal with "turn this on" or "turn that off". Oh well. The full screen map in Direwolf was so handy even if it didn't list the name of each of the biomes (which I felt was a huge oversight).

Are you talking about Mapwriter(included in Opis)? Mapwriter has a very detailed map that will also tell you the biome when you hover your cursor over it.

Yep I guess that must be it.

I didn't write this reddit post but it's basically me. LOL I agree it is confusing having so many map mods and then trying to figure out which is which.

There is only one reply, and it's one word - Opis. So I guess I'll see if I can load it up next time I play Monster. I really miss the mapping mod. In Direwolf it wouldn't show the biome description unless you were within a short distance of the biome, which sucked, but it is still the best map mod I ever used.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out which dam file contains this mod. There's not a single mention of "mapwriter" or even "writer" in the mods directory, leading me to believe that it was renamed or shipped with another mod. Please help me, because I really don't want to go through every zip files mod info file...."

BoP, absolute best. Believe me, I have tried them all:

ATG
: Major chunk problems and low structure spawn rate + beautiful landscape.
BoP: Cartoon, Adventurer theme.
Highlands: For those who want EBXL again!

If your pc/server can handle it, go with ATG+Highlands+BoP as is the default setting with Monster. Gives some amazing landscapes!
Got an example of a (IMO) super amazing seed right here:
http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/rhns-1-6-monster-build-journal-and-guide-collection.42664/

Just to get this straight:

In FTB Monster (2 weeks ago?) I used "ATG-alternative" as the terrain generator because my understanding was this was the only way to get ATG, BoP and Highlands to all generate including all the biomes. I assumed that default was just Highland +BoP? I have a great looking map (minus rivers which would have been nice). Nevertheless if you can confirm default =ATG+BoP+Highlands I would use that next time. Also should I be checking the configs as generally the more biomes/sub-biomes the better (perhaps not lots of snow biomes though)?

oh and rhn - what is the map generator you used in the linked post it looks AMAZING!!??

cheers

By the "default setting" I meant use the ATG+BoP+Highlands as they come with Monster(all enabled and configured to work with each other, well balanced in temperate belts, altitude levels to ensure both mountains and plains etc. etc.). Eyemaz spend a lot of time making sure the mods would work out the best possible with each other. Modifying the configs yourself will require a lot of testing to arrive at the same quality result.
I did not mean the default world type(which is vanilla MC world gen).

And the maps are made with Journeymap which is also included in Monster. You can enable it along with either Zan's or Rei's mimimap if you like btw. I personally use it along with Zan's.
