Bit of an opinion thread here. I face the daunting task of removing some mods to I can texture the remaining mods I use regularly. I'm an addict to texture packs as hate vanilla textures. The reason for this is in a separate thread in support ! So my question is what mods would you remove if you had to ?
My mods :
Enchanting plus
Omnitools
Obsidiplates
Nether ores
Stevescarts 2
Switches
Wireless redstone
Xenos reliquary

Your thoughts

I'll reverse that. I'd keep:

Obsidiplates
Nether ores
Switches
and possibly Wireless Redstone.

This is from a gameplay perspective with how I prefer my game. But also looking at it from a texturing perspective, the first three are no brainers. Obsidiplates mainly adds pressure plates that you can steal your preferred obsidian texture to cover, and the rest are just alpha-channeled pressure plates. For Nether ores, just take the netherrack texture and replace the stone texture on the ores you already have done. Switches? They're just buttons, and I assume you already have textures for those.

Out of my personal choices, Wireless Redstone is really the only big retexture for you.

I guess if you look at the rest from the same perspective, Enchanting Plus really only adds one thing and Omnitools adds three. SC2 and Xeno's are two other really big retexture projects.

Continuing that viewpoint, if I were you, I'd either only pick one or none of the "big" mods to retexture, and all of the tiny ones. Though the end decision is obviously up to you. ;)

Sorry for misfeed on info but am not looking to retexture as am a big fan of soartex and sphax. My issue is.... And have painstakingly discovered the more textures I add to a pack it suddenly goes loopy (wish at this point knew how to do that linky thingy to another post). Floors disappears and I have cuboid iron swords replacing cobblestone. My texture pack size is around 92meg and As I sadly find it yucky to play with vanilla textures I'm limited to removing mods. Not to say I can't keep them as I can play with a stable 30 fps with all mods enabled But only 80% textured.

I'd remove Nether Ores in a heartbeat. Stupid exploding ores are annoying. >:/

haha, back when I was still playing the ftb pack with both gregtech and nether ores installed it frequently happened that I mined an ore thinking it was from gregtech, till the zombie pigmen came knocking on my shoulder saying it wasn't from gregtech :p
ever since then I've been using NEI tooltips nonstop :)

If I have to...
Enchanting plus - removed
Omnitools - kept
Obsidiplates - kept
Nether ores - kept
Stevescarts 2 - kept
Switches - removed
Wireless redstone - kept
Xenos reliquary - removed

But honestly I like all of those mods (except E+).

Yup
I Don't have issues with any mods but if I download Sphax 64 base and unleashed patch from BDcraft forum and patch them together properly then the graphics goes all stupid. I know its due to the amount of textures so I have had to 'reluctantly' mix 32 and 64 textures. I have -XX:MaxPermSize-256M in the additional parameters file on the launcher and 4.0Gb of 5GB RAM allocated.

You should really allocate less RAM. I recommend 2.5GB if you want more than 2GB. I never allocate more than half of my RAM to modded MC.

Sants

Sorry as a number of threads I have seem have always said more RAM more RAM. would allocating too much RAM effect the amount of textures that can be processed ?
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 5 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

This is my specs. Would you think this is not enough to run a full x64 Sphax texture pack ? also where i mention the maxpermsize 256 is that ok or should it be the 384 or 128 ? and also would you recommend 2.5 RAM allocated ?

Thanks for your help

No it wouldn't, I'm just saying that you could easily get memory leak issues from allocating too much RAM and not letting your computer use the rest. Also, FTB doesn't even need that much. When I ran Sphax 64x on Ultimate a while back I only needed about 2GB out of 6GB of RAM, and it often didn't use that much.

I never had an issue with using a full Ultimate x64 Sphax but for some reason on Unleashed it goes stupid. The game doesn't crash but when i load into a game the textures are really messed up so can only assume its the amount of textures in Unleashed.
Is the specs i posted Ok for running modded mine craft ?

Better than mine so yes. And I'm fairly certain there are more textures in Unleashed than Ultimate, since there are 2 textures for each TiC part, and 3 textures per material per tool type (example: bone axe handle, broken bone axe head, and bone axe head). The amount of textures shouldn't be the issue.
