I'm looking for a mod that allows you to fly in some reasonable (~= balanced) way in survival mode... Something like the ring from EE1/2.

I've used the gravity suite in a few worlds, but it's a royal pain in the rear side to craft, and by the time i get it i'm already at the very endgame where i don't have much left to do except building Rube Goldberg machines :p

Any other mods that add something like that?

Industrialcraft has its jetpacks.

Thaumcraft 3 is going to add the flying carpet eventually (it's already present, just cannot be researched because it's still buggy).

But jetpacks runs out of juice very quickly (idk if the fueled one is any longer in flight duration) so what's the solution to that annoying drawback of no real upgrades for them? Well what I do is carries a "portable" generator and takes a good stack of charcoal for any long duration trip. (they sure do lasts for most cases or a stack of coal coke should lasts you the extra miles!) It's "portable" since you can breaks it with a pickaxe and if out of fuel well get punching some wood and get a vanilla furnace to cooks up more charcoals, Or.. stuck in a stinking desert farm some cactus for fuel to lasts until you get out and actually find wood.

To be fair, you have to be constantly using your jetpack if it's going to run out of fuel quickly. The only time it has every been a problem for me is in the nether.

But if your worried about the jetback losing all its fuel, have a batpack/lithiumbatpack(if gregtech is installed) and a batbox. You can unload energy from your pack into your jetpack.

You can also use a solar helmet. It won't get power back fast but it still works.

So lithiumbatpack works in batboxes? Cool I though since it's considered a medium tier charging device you'd need MFE to at least charge/discharge it. But perhaps it's wouldn't be hard to make MFE anyways so I guess ether way it's wouldn't be a huge hassle but it's is a pain carrying a stinking wrench and charging that too.

There's also the crazy expensive GraviChestPlate. But, I guess yea, Jetpacks are cheaper.

Use electric jetpacks. And have one or more of them in reserve.

Use an ender pouch connected to an ender chest that uses BC gates to pump your electric jetpacks into then out of an MFSU or whatever specifically dedicated to that. You need to use iron (or higher) autarchic gates. but it's worth it. Works like a charm, takes maybe a minute. I charge my Graviplate this way.

I know it's not in any modpacks, but Ars Magica also adds a flying spell.

And I'd imagine Pahimar will add back the flying ring at some point (not based on anything, just a guess - it's not the list of what definitely won't be in EE3).

I do remember hearing about something pahimar was going to add to EE3 called Boots of the Direwolf which I believe someone said was going to replace the flight ring.

Asside from that the only thing that springs to mind which would be epic but awkward and ridiculously at the point of a build that you did because why the heck not but you could build your own flying carpet out of red power frames : P

change the jetpack mode to hover if you want to move laterally with it, they last MUCH longer. I personally use them for cliff (or quarry hole) navigation my self as sprinting is faster movement

You silly tech people with your fancy sciencey stuff :p

Look, over here! --<
Is it a bird? A potato? Is it Superman??
No silly... it's a Pterodactyl from the dinosaur mod, du'h!

-But Munaus, how do I get a pterdacyctyl???
Simple, you downgrade MC to 1.3.2,( I personally prefer 1.2.5 which has less bugs) download Flammarilva's Fossil / Archeology and start mining some fossils!
Once you feel you have enough, you build a Analyzer that will sort out if you got Dino-DNA!.... or just some random junk.
Once you get a Pterodactyl-DNA, you will have to build a Cultivator (the recipe is easy stuff, nothing hardcore) and put the DNA inside with some food. ( yea, you are basically "burning" the DNA with meat! )
There is a small chance that the result could be a ugly frogturd... When the Cultivator is done you got an egg! Put it on the ground near a lightsource and wait for it to hatch... BOOM!

After 3-4 Minecraftian days that cute little dino is fly-able! God I love this mod! :)
Compared to any tech mod you don't need to mine lots of stuff and make blocks with wire and energy to make more stuff before you can get a item that can make you fly.
Compared to Mo'Creatures you don't need to search for Dino's, they are already dead :p

At that rate you might as well stay on 1.4.7 which has more features and IMO better mods avaliable and then use the dragon mounts mod you get all the features of the 1.4.7 mods that have been added since then and get to fly on a dragon.
