Wrong! If you use WebSound as your server host you can easily get 6gb for about $22 a month. I pay about $16 a month for 3gb (but I have used their 6gb servers before)

Please be informed that I said roughly and not exactly. Plus the last time I heard about them (a while ago so correct me if I am wrong) they use E5v2 CPU systems which aren't optimized for single threading applications (Minecraft can be limited by single threading but it can also sometimes use additional threads so mileages may vary). At the end of the day at any rates you usually get what you paid for.

For every thing in modded minecraft, there is a counter. If it doesn't, then it should be banned. Thats how it will be fair

No one likes servers where items are banned.
And I am not quite sure why you are banning items.

It's like you can happily ban rapiers in PvP because they are quite powerful, but you shouldn't ban machines, because they make life easier.

Yeah of course rapiers should be banned, they are too op for too low of a cost. And I can't think of any ban worthy machines

Anything from Buildcraft.

"That's a nice house you've got there..."
You could probably even set it up so that it's all outside the render distance of the, ah, unfortunate victim.

Bc builders and fillers would be banned. they can decimate a base with no effort

I can do the same thing with less effort using TNT (malicious_bloke would be proud) or by "misplacing" a single machine or wire.

Yeah, but with tnt, you have to set up a bunch and it has to be ON the person's base. With landmarks, it's more around the person's stuff, which is less conspicuous - maybe not by much, but still. :P

TNT under or above the base and heavily stacked. The blast from the first row will launch the remainder into the base with no problem. Landmarks, on the other hand, always take me a while to actually connect for some reason.

There are ways of blast proofing the outside of the base, and ways of making sure others can't get in the base (arcane doors). And this is all assuming you find the base, it's not easy to find someone base unless they build it in the open.

Yeah... Still, though; everything from Buildcraft just seems so much worse than tnt. The devestating exactness of the perfectly square corners of the hole that was your base, the range that is much larger than TNT... Plus you can use it again, and again, and again. Even though tnt is cheap, you still have to craft at least one for every blast. :P

There are plenty of mods / exploits I can use to bypass all of this.

The point of me mentioning all of this is an attempt to show how futile it is to ban items / blocks. Basically, if I want to level a base, I'll find a way regardless of what has been restricted.

Fair enough. TNT just has that general rage factor to it that a filler won't though.

Yeah but in modded factions, its not so much about protecting your base, it's about making sure others don't find your base.As far as I know there is no way to just find someones base.

There are ways. Look for TC4 nodes that are out of place or bunched together, or do an ore scan with a digital miner to find areas with an oddly small amount of ores (that just gave me a horrible idea for how to level a base), a player detector, use WAILA to find a Carpenter's block entrance, etc. Pretty sure XU (or another mod, can't remember) even has a block that let's you look through the world.

No matter how hard someone tries to prevent this stuff, someone else will find a way.

Yea your right, you can't make your base un-raidable, that's a good thing. You can make it harder, and you can set up defenses, but if a base was completely unraidable it wouldn't be fair anyways

And thus why a lot of folks who say "yeah this sounds great!" will log on, make their super secret base, have someone find it and nuke it, then rage quit and never be seen again.

Hell, I don't know how many SSP worlds I've deleted due to a misplaced wire, or a bad chunk load on a cooling system for a nuke plant.... At least those were my own damned fault, but to have someone else do it? 'eff that right in the "a"

If you want pvp, it has to be balanced. Modded MC =/= balance.. even with major config tweaks, there is always a way to get OP.
