back up your files then force an update.

it starts to download the files but the file is not there.

I can provide a screen shot of the directory if you like.

Worked like a charm.

Put the FTBLauncherLog.txt file on pastebin and link it here.
It should be located in the same folder as your launcher

There is a space in the filepath of your launcher (/Program Files/), this is known to sometime cause issues like this.
Could you try moving it to a filepath that don't contain space or other special characters?
Like for example "c:/FTB/"
Then try launching it again and do a force update.

It's still using the old filepath it seems.
Go to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming (can also be done by writing %appdata% in the searchfield on the start menu and enter the folder Roaming).
Then delete the folder named "ftblauncher" and try to launch the new launcher again.

I downloaded the file... put it in the right place, no joy... the launcher just starts vanilla...

I unpacked it in to the .minecraft dir and in the minecraft dir

C:\ftb\FTBBETAA\minecraft
C:\ftb\.minecraft

no mods loaded,

Use one of the links in my signature to download. Place the launcher download into a brand new folder on your desktop.

fresh dload of the exe... started from scratch... stops at Downloading mod pack.... Please wait.

No movement of the bar at all.

Ok, go through the steps in my troubleshooting outline I have at the HERE link in my signature. Do everything exactly as it says. If it still doesn't work, screenshot it and post the progress.
There is extra information farther down the document for other things you can try.

Still no luck on the force update, even with a fresh install.... I did how ever in my quest to remove all ftb files find a zip of the working directory. I am back up and running. Thank you all for your help.
