So I have my AE system setup to craft most anything I need with one exception. That being wood and wood related products... My issue is I have a pattern filled to make sticks from oak planks but I'm too lazy to plant oak trees and I have a surplus of spruce wood. I figured that I would be able to take a Minium Stone and convert wood into a different type using AE's crafting ability, but what it does is it converts as much as I need and then before being able to use it or pull it out it converts it back to the type of wood it was first.

Is there a way to get AE to make the type of wood I want and keep it (using the Interface block or a chest system) or should I just go start messing with Forestry?

BTW Im using Ultimate Pack with Optifine added if that matters.

i would just put in a pattern for spruce to oak and if you need it back to spruce manually convert it back

I don't know if it applies to the MAC, but if you use the ME crafting terminal it can use the different woods interchangeable (or anything similar from the ore dictionary). Wouldn't it be logical if the MAC also had this feature?
So did you already try without the minium stone recipe? And just let it craft oak wood recipes with spruce wood?

AFAIK AE has a bug ATM that causes minium stone to not take damage when crafted with the system, so it would be best to hold off doing that untill its fixed, or unless you are like that :)
(correct me if I am wrong)

You definitely can. I've configured my molecular assembler chamber to autocraft Minium Stones, and I use that to create all the dyes with cactus as my starting point.

One word of caution, and this applies to items with durability in general: when you create your pattern, make sure to use an undamaged/freshly crafted Minium stone. Otherwise, once the Minium Stone gets destroyed, the system won't autocraft a new Minium Stone, because the durability in the pattern does not match the freshly crafted one.

As for the bug, haven't encountered that. Either that, or I just have too much minium stones.

During my experience, the MAC does damage minium stones when crafting. However t does behave strangely when crafting with items that take damage, even its own quartz knife, and if there are multiple stones/knives in the system, it will always use the least damaged one when crafting.

Watching Direwolf20's videos I also gathered that woods would be interchangeable, but for some odd reason my MAC does not recognize different types of wood. What I think I am going to end up doing is using fabricators and setting up my AE system to keep 1 Minium Stone in a chest under the Fab. If all else fails a few well placed nukes will "fix" the problem because I kind of want to start a new world... But thanks for your advice

AE does use interchangeable resources. What it doesn't know is how to make them. Even if you make a pattern, showing that it can create spruce planks spruce logs, it won't use this recipe.
What you CAN do, is to cheat this system like this: Create a "fake" pattern like for AE interface, on the crafting side you put spruce logs, on the product side, you put oak planks. You put this pattern in the MAC. Then when crafting requires oak planks, AE will try to craft oak planks from spruce, creating spruce planks which is used as an dictionary resource.

actually I think you can put spruce planks to oak planks in it and it would create spruce and then discover that it can skip the spruce to oak step and use the spruce directly
