Mining Turtle Help...

I'm new to FTB and I've been testing out the mining turtle, I excavated down to about block 10 and then made it tunnel. It tunneled straight through a pool of lava and I have no idea how to retrieve it. Is there any way for me to get it, and if not, is there a way to prevent that from happening again, like a program the turtle can use? Thanks.

the turtle just goes through lava and wont stop (unless u write a program yourself which would get a bit more complicate).
You can use a pump to suck out the lava then retrieve it, just forget about since its not that expensive or take bucket and get all the lava out.
More ways i cant think off right now (late already and i am tiered )

another alternative if to use steve carts and get a mining cart that detects lava and builds a bridge on top so u can walk over it.

If you know roughly where it is, you can just have another turtle excavate the area; when it reaches the first turtle it will dig it up like any other block.

Is it totally enclosed in lava? If its above the lava you could just build a bridge out to it and drop sand or lava all around it so you can break it and when it falls it doesn't drop into the lava. You could probably use cobble, gravel and water to tunnel out to it safely if it's covered by lava too, but it's going to take awhile to mine through the obsidian.

pump the lava out using a bc pump. then search the computercraft forums for a tunnel program that will return the turtle after mining.

Make a second turtle, find out how long on the same level that you lost the original turtle the lava pool is, say 26 blocks, start you new turtle on same lvl & "tunnel 30" this will pick up your lost turtle on the way, & pop out the far side of the offending lava pool.
