To get miniature red hearts can you use autonomous activators or does it have to be you hitting the monsters? I heard that it can't be the autonomous activators so I checked myself and haven't gotten a heart yet so I'm just making sure
Activators should*. They are Forge fake players, so it may not work, but on the other hand, it might work! It's a "rare" drop. so no, the autonomous activators or turtles will not cause drops. The grinders used to, but my experience in the latest AgS is they don't.
You'll need something like iron spikes (or invar in AgS) which are coded to allow the rare drops which normally are restricted to you killing them.

Yeah, but in Monster you can. Both are 1.6.4. It's a config thing and can be changed. It's a "rare" drop. so no, the autonomous activators or turtles will not cause drops. The grinders used to, but my experience in the latest AgS is they don't.

Then what's the config line? I've never seen it (granted, I haven't looked very hard for it). And just because a modpack is on the same MC version doesn't mean the mods are the same versions, and that tends to cause confusion.
Alright, thanks, I have it set up to get mob essence but I guess since it doesn't give xp I'll leave it with iron spikes until I get some heartsYou could always go vanilla on it and design a drop/suffocation 1-hit trap. If you do not need total automation of its collection (i.e. it is not supply another automated system), then you could always settle for this solution.
Iron spikes is super easy though, though you'll need a way to pick up items. You also don't get exp in any form (mob essence -> bottle ole enchanting = exp).[DOUBLEPOST=1407181320][/DOUBLEPOST]
Changing versions is the same as changing configs, granted compatibility issues. All I'm saying is that there exists that inconsistency and there should exist a solution that still allows the usage of MFR machines to acquire rare drops. This is especially nice for those who have established infrastructure and want to use what they have.
A quick idea to turn it on and off would be to use draw bridges to cover up the iron spikes. Put the iron spikes a couple levels below the grinder level. Using signal inversion, you can use the same signal which turns the drawbridges on, to turn the MFR grinder on (since redstone signal has opposite effect on either machine).Alright, thanks, I have it set up to get mob essence but I guess since it doesn't give xp I'll leave it with iron spikes until I get some hearts
