So, trying to make the fusion reactor in my SMP Mindcrack server. I've almost finished the main reactor block but starting to realize just how much I have ahead of me when it comes to making the coils.

So, you need 24 fusion coils. Each fusion coil needs 4 highly-advanced machine blocks. Each machine block needs 4 chrome. So, 4 chrome per block * 4 blocks per coil * 24 coils = 384 chrome.

So, 384 chrome dust... the Sphalerite ore is out of the question, would need thousands and thousands of blocks to get enough. Ruby dust is the only real option, 9 ruby dust per 1 chrome, that brings us to 384*9 = 3564 rubies.

Ok, options for getting that many rubies...

UU-matter? 7 uu-matter for rubies, so 12096 uu-matter... nope.

Ok, yeah... I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

UU matter: 4 uum -> 24 redstones -> 2.25 ruby -> 0.25 chrome --> 16 uum/chrome ; 6144 uum for 384 chrome

And also the 3072 ender pearls for Be cells, should be easy with endermen farm..

You can get rubies and dust from a scrap box, so you could chip away at it through that. You could also breed bees, as I believe extra bees are in mindcrack. There are chrome bees, and ruby bees and redstone bees.

Also, I believe there are IC2 plants that give you redstone. Never breeded them though.

I believe chrome bees were added in a recent update. No idea how to breed them though.. without a cheat guide, would probably take a couple weeks to find. In that time, the other methods would probably have worked... lol.

Hmm, if no one knows about the chrome bees, does anyone know the tree to follow for the ruby bees? I did some searching but haven't been able to find it.

That table doesn't have a listing for "chrome bees" or chrome combs. Can anyone find a listing in NEI for for chrome combs? I noticed that titanium, platinum and iridium are currently not available so I'm thinking chrome may also be something that's not yet implemented.

Ruby Bees sound promising though, but it would take considerable time to breed up to them. I'm hoping to have a couple lapis bees soon, the LESU storage requires an unreasonable amount of lapis. You may also want to consider this because once you have a fusion reactor, you're going to need a massive energy storage for it.

Gregtech could use a new source of chrome, even if it's something in the End asteroids. I have stacks of tungsten and titanium, but hardly any chrome. I shudder to think how bad it would be without redpower rubies. I have an easier time with iridium than chrome.

I think chrome bees are not in xbee (I asked this in GT thread and someone confirmed it for me), and Binnie removed iridium bee (well you can always use platinum bee and then centrifuge 8 to get 1). Redpower rubies indeed helps a lot.. Although I got most of my chrome from redstone ore (manual mining)

Umm, Isn't a fusion reactor supposed to be super hard and resource intensive? If you are not willing to gather >2000 blocks/ materials then you might wanna give up making one.

Conversely if rubies react to the fortune enchant you could mine manualy and get tonnes that way? FYI thanks to the anvil and chant books you can chant a diamond drill with it too.

Ruby? better use the silktouch enchant to your diamond drill or efficiency to rockcutter and then to the grinder for 2.5 dust..

Centrifuging redstone definitely helps a ton - it tends to come out your ears when you mine a lot, especially with fortune or silk touch. Besides, it gives you liquid mercury, which is useful if you run an industrial grinder (and you can recycle the cells in an extractor if you don't need it), and every 64 redstone also give you 10 iron, which is a pretty nice bonus.

Update: It seems that the enchanting of drills has been remedied (for some stupid reason) It will let you enchant it but when you collect the drill it falls out of the inventory along with the book you tried to put on it. Ohh and it eats your EXP too.
Drills enchanted in the past seem to retain their chant though.

BTW, there are ruby bees. I only run two - after giving them fast productivity and putting in an alveary - and get 2 or 3 stacks of dust a day. That's 8-12 stacks of combs. If I was really wanting chrome, I could put up 20+ bees in an hour or so

That blows. Enchanting with books is a really lengthy process which makes you WORK for your good tools(you can blow 500+ levels on a silk touch book easily). And I'm really not glad that they're taking it away. Do consider that normal tools are very underwhelming when compared to quarries and bores and turtles and steves carts and.... You get the idea.

The idea that enchantable power tools are OP comes from the dark ages when IC was mostly standalone, why is it still followed?

The thaumcraft tools are pretty awesome. I just enchanted a pickaxe of the core, and got repair II, efficiency IV, and Silk touch I. This is pretty much the best pickaxe ever. It's super fast, has silk touch for grinding up the gems and dusts, and repairs itself. It also gives native cluster (extra ore) and can show you where a good place to mine is. Since it repairs itself from the aura, I never need another pick except for when I need to mine coal or xycraft blocks.

I will agree with you that for the trouble it took to go through enchantment books for that specific one you wanted, it sucks that you can't enchant electric tools anymore.

I am still working up on bees, but I will be going for a fusion reactor at some point. trying to purify the rocky branch right now to get started.

Good thing I use enchant plus. It allows you to enchant any item you want.
