Indeed, just a modest amount of breeding can produce awesome results.

The White Willow as bred in a Swamp or Jungle biome provides an enormous boost in sapling productivity.

Actually think the tree that people always recommend to tree breeding novices is the Hill cherry. It has decent stats of everything(including triple sappiness of a vanilla oak) and is really easy to breed(basically just takes an oak and a birch and some random bees to get started).

Oh, also make sure to squeeze the apples/other fruit for fruit juice to use in the fermenter. It further increases the output by 50% per sapling.

@rhn There are may good options out there, yes, and one certainly doesn't have to "breed to the end" to get good results compared to vanilla saplings.
