Greetings,
I have a 36HP boiler on a FTB Unleashed server, which i need to power fully. However, i have had some trouble deciding upon the power source. I plan on building an underground farm to supply the boiler, using either of the following-
1) MFR's planter and harvester(with single emerald distance upgrade each) to create a oak tree farm, which will be made into charcoal for fuel
2) Forestry Sugarcane and wheat farm(wheat into mulch) supplying a fermenter(with water) which makes biomass which will be refined into biofuel.

Questions-
A) Which method would be better?
B) does a boiler always heat up to 1000C regardless of the fuel(providing that it is in constant supply)?
C) Also, how much power does a the above MFR configuration require? (Approx power supply)
D) How much wood would the above MFR configuration supply per unit time(approx)?
Thanks, and kindly assist.

I don't need to run any numbers to tell you that the MFR planter/harvester will run much faster. You'll never produce enough sugarcane and wheat to keep up with the MFR farm. I've easily run 3 or 4 boilers on a MFR farm using only 4 of the 9 slots to power them.
To answer your other quesstions, the boiler will always heat up to 1000C regardless of fuel.
he MFR configuration will probably cost less energy than a forestry biofuel factory.
The charcoal from the tree farm would only last a few seconds at first, but once fully heated, the boiler should take a few charcoal per minute.

Hmm, thanks. I had already built the parts required for the MFR method, and it seemed simpler than forestry anyway.
So approximately how much wood would a 14x14 MFR farm produce? enough for 2 36HP boilers? And what energy supply would the single harvester and planter need?

Thanks a great deal,

Harvesters and planters are relatively low-power devices, especially for what they do. I'm not sure how much it needs but the answer is not much.

MFR farms can produce A LOT OF WOOD. They're also planting regular saplings, not funky saplings like Forestry creates, so all methods of speeding up tree growth added by other mods work here plus MFR's in-house fertilizer option. This is the current go-to mod for tree farms that operate at ludicrous speed.

Go for nine different kind of trees. More diversity in bioreactor = more fuel per item; I put mine on a long clock the last time I did this so it turned on every once in a while. With BoP finding nine kinds of trees really isn't hard, and they could even all have oak wood if you wanted. If you throw in a MFR rubber tree you also have infinite rubber.

I've run a pair of 36LP's from a 3x3 MFR treefarm with Ghostwood at natural growth rates, with fertiliser (very easily gained from a single sewer, with range upgrade, under a pen with a dozen or so animals in it) a 3x3 farm can easily feed 3 or 4 boilers. A 14x14 MFR tree farm with fertiliser is more suited to feeding 20 or so 36hp boilers including start up and having an excess of wood, yeah the MFR treefarm is that ludicrous when you use fertiliser.

Get some of MFR's industrial fertilizer from the sewages under your animal pens, make a tree farm with only one plantable space, and dump all the fertilizer you get into a Fertilizer machine. Instant trees everywhere oh god what's going on why can't I hold all this wood

Thanks a lot guys, I think i will start it up with one 36HP, and increase the number of reactors if i get a huge surplus :)

If you want OP power, you need to go with forestry and not MFR.

Search the forums for 'the ultimate forestry tree' and then try and make that, you will be swimming in biofuel with only some tree breeding needed.
