I know the premise behind this machine is to do things such as shear sheep, milk cows, and so on. My question is how often does it perform these actions. I captured 12 sheep with lasso's about 4 or so hours ago, it sheared them. But the sheeps wool hasn't grown back since. My question is how long does it take to grow back. The area has been chunk loaded the entire time.

Also, how often does it milk? I don't have cows yet, but I anticipate a similar issue.

Thanks

The rancher will shear/milk every 200 ticks. The only limiting factor on sheep is how often it eats. Not intending offense, but are your sheep on grass blocks?

Have a look on the machine gui, there should be a blue bar, if that bar is going down, then the machine is working, if it is not, the machine is idle, the machine either needs to dump the items it's harvested In a inventory, or liquid needs pumping out, in your case check to see if there is a valid inventory behind it, I know that itemducts do have a problem with that machine, causing problems, I just stick a chest behind it with itemducts pulling items out the chest, plus the chest acts as a item buffer!

What Bagman17 said. Sheep needs to eat grass to grow back their wool.

I totally overlooked that, lol. Now, once they eat the grass, and it turns to a dirt block, will water grow it back to grass, or does that happen over time ?

If there are other grass blocks nearby it will spread to dirt naturally over time.

Build a pad of 7 x 7 grass pad and fences on the border to make an enclosure of 5 x 5 grass pad. So the border of fences has grass that the sheeps can't eat but will still spread to dirt.

Working on that now, thanks.[DOUBLEPOST=1398650896][/DOUBLEPOST]Does it have to be exposed to open air, or can it be in my barn?

It can be indoors, just make sure you have sufficient light level.

If you have Dartcraft you can make a 3 block deep pit of at least 3x3 and put liquid force from dartcraft on the bottom. 2 sheep got me a full jabba barrel of wool in less than an hour. The liquid force causes growth of wool increases.

I love Dartcraft.

So if you were running some pink generators, and used liquid force and a rancher on pink sheep...profit?

Yes.Also consider that ranchers don't need a ton of power. You could use a passive power gen item like a mek windmill and run it until you had a few stacks of pink wool. Then set up a pink generator to run the rancher and you'd still be energy positive from the setup. Similar to jump start process of heatgens from Mekanism being used to power electrolytic separators that then fuel hydrogen generators.

And before anyone talks about Dartcraft being OP in this setup, lets remember that we're talking about a generator from Extra Utilities that makes energy from a color. ;)
