any specific modpack you would like this based on

Galacticraft, proably. I'm not a big specialist in modpacks.
But as far as mods go, it would be cool to have Railcraft-based logistics. Railcraft rails is fun, but very rarely used.

ooh I'm thinking of using a space ship/station map where an asteroid field damaged the station and some of the nearby ships

Just remember to make it difficult

Maybe make it Dead Space or System Shock - themed? That would explain all the monsters.

that sounds awesome but I'll need to get someone's permission to modify their world and post it if I don't do it from scratch which would take alot longer
