I have been running an FTB server or Custom Modded server for a number of years now. My problem is when updating the server from say 1.5.2 to 1.6 or 1.6 to 1.7 and the upcoming 1.7 to 1.8 I tend to just wipe the map in an effort to cut down on possible issues with conflicts or world corruption, but it would be nice to be able to take my previous version map and migrate. I am quite sure a migration isn't possible for every update, but with the mass amounts of updates Mojang puts out, it sure would be nice not to have to wipe my map each time.

Is this at all possible? Is there a tool for this? I had read about one called Midas and in a previous thread I had seen mention of it possibly working.

It is almost certainly not possible to do that. Most mods have changed a huge deal from 1.6.4 to 1.7.10. So even if you can get the landscape converted all your mod stuff will be most likely invalid.

I find a new version of Minecraft an ideal time to start a new world.

I agree with you starting over at those major changes in MC are typical especially with major releases like 1.6 to 1.7 and 1.7 to 1.8. I appreciate your input.
