  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Details of the issue Okay so I really need some help getting this thing to work. I am running a Custom Modpack which consists of 103 mods. The list of the mods is attached with this post. It starts up fine, no issues with that but the game lags alot. I'll walk you through this.

Specifications:-

OS: Windows 10 64bit
Java: 8 64bit
RAM: 4GB
Processor: Intel i5-7th gen
GPU: Nvidia 940MX 2GB

1) So as you can see, in the mod-list below, there are 103 mods, but for some reason the game says that 145 loaded and 138 active. Why is this?
2) I've tried running Optifine and FastCraft together, but no matter what I do, the game crashes. But this is alright.
3) I decided to drop FastCraft and run the pack with just OptiFine. The game takes a while to start up but even after that, I lag alot. The game works for 5 seconds. And then freezes for 5 seconds, and this cycle continues. I am using the lowest settings and even set Java to use my graphics card which it does. I've assigned 3.5gb of max ram, and my PC has 4gb of ram. These are the java arguments I use : -Xmx 3584M -Xms 2048M -Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseFastAccessorMethods -XX:+UseCompressedOops -XX:+OptimizeStringConcat -XX:+AggressiveOpts -XX:+UseCodeCacheFlushing -XX:parallelGCThreads=10 -client -d64. What can I do to make things better?
4) I decided to enable lagometer in Optifine and I've attached the screenie of that aswell. What do the spikes mean? And how do I get rid of it?
5) I rented a server which runs all the same mods, etc. And the server boots up just fine and I can even connect to it. I thought since in SinglePlayer, the laptop takes care of the world generation part, mabye letting the server do that would take some load off the laptop. Is it true?
6) I plan on buying some hardware to upgrade my laptop a little bit. Would an SSD be better or an additional 4GB RAM to boost my packs performance. Buying both isn't possible.

The biggest problem is that you only have 4gb of ram. Allocating 3.5 out of 4 will cause issues as your OS also needs some ram. Try reducing the allocated ram to 2.5-3gb and see if that helps.
Also note that Optifine might cause issues.
Running the pack on the server should definitely help.
An SSD would decrease loading times but with 4gb of ram you cannot play 1.10+ packs as they usually require at least 4gb of allocated ram.
