Hi,
Since 1.10, I'm faced with dead ends because of modpack unstability. On Sky Factory 3, I almost had to stop playing on my map because of unsolvable lag issues. Now this starts again with Modern Skyblock 3 and everything I try just fail. Seems this time, I really won't have choice to switch modpack. It takes me ages to gather initial resources, until I can get something to mine and sort inventory. Since modpacks are nowadays less stable than on 1.7, I would like to know if there is a possibility to make the beginning quicker, such a prebuilt map with an initial base and startup resources. I know many players make the beginning in a few hours and that's not a big deal to redo, redo and repeat, but not for me, and this is to the point I will stop playing in absence of a solution to speed up beginning, unless I can find a stable modpack worth playing. I though FTB Revelation would be a stable pack, but the beginning without any resource generating mod such as Ex Nihilo will be a pain for me.

Without any information about your setup or logs, i'll take a wild guess:

Sounds like you have limitations with your hardware.

I played SF3 up to the point where I was half way through Draconic Evolution and never experienced any problems. Based on this, I would venture to guess that it is either your pc or the way you set up your automation.

Hi,

I have a Core i7 PC with 16Gb of RAM, and a NVIDIA graphic card. That should be able to run the game. I don't know the "correct" way of setting up automation. Mods are usually documented but not the point of showing how to troubleshoot or fine tune. So either there is debugging/profiling tools I'm not aware of and everybody know, either Youtubers I saw video from imitate each other or have access to private maps with templates of automations that work. This insider-based system is very frustrating for me because I have no way in!

If I need to replace my PC every two years or less, it pretty makes it worthless to make custom builds, but then I get stuck with very cheap desktop PCs, gaming PCs with ugly and bulky cases, or laptops with either not enough storage (SSD) to record video or too slow performance (HDD) causing the bootup to take 2-3 minutes at first, then more and more time unless I reformat/reinstall every month. I need something with one SSD for the OS, and >1Tb HDD for data, and I cannot get this on a laptop or the prebuilt desktops.

Hi,

Here is the link to the issue I filed about Modern Skyblock 3 taking large amounts of memory: https://github.com/EmosewaPixel/Modern-Skyblock-3/issues/661. Seems a problem with the 3.4 version, I had to downgrade to 3.3.

In Sky Factory 3 (https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/5mujgl/sky_factory_3_lagging/), lag was caused by several things: not enough memory assigned to JVM, Extra Utilities generators turning on/off repeatedly and even the interaction with OBS, I had to start OBS AFTER I start the game, not before, otherwise there was FPS issue even with a new blank map.

But there is more than the lag and crashes. Nowadays, skyblock packs impose some form of progression and sometimes, the issues happen with that progression. In Modern Skyblock 3, I got a lot of difficulty assembling the pump jack and distillation tower. If I couldn't put these machines up, that was ending my playthrough, as most other mods I'm interested in are gated behind the Immersive Engineering chapter. I got past the hurdle, but I'm not sure I will get past the next one, and if I don't, I'm forced to start over on a new pack or stop playing. Packs without progression like FTB Revelation or the Direwolf20 packs don't have this problem, but they don't provide any early game way of gathering resources other than mining, and that does not work well for me, because of too many holes in caves I don't see only I move very very very slowly, lava, mobs, etc. I know about branch mining, but each time I tried, it does not work, I'm unlucky and getting into lava or a ravine, unless I spend a lot more time checking, each block I remove, that there is floor underneath. The early game is not the greatest part, at least for me, but the way modded Minecraft now works, with so many modpacks with specificities and issues, requires regular restart from scratch.
