I just use the Railcraft Blast Furnace for steel. It's cheaper.
And easier. If you know how. Cheaper to build, requires no extra energy, can use charcoal, not much slower either.

Need I go on?

I've got 8 of those, barrel of steel without a problem, just hook in a barrel of iron in the appropriate slot and wait for the DINK signal.

Hmm, I guess I have a different problem than. The recipes depend on a specific type of steel that can't be crafted.

To male steel: put a refined iron ingot and two coal dust in the industrial blast furnace. Atleast, that's how it works in ultimate. Just try it.

It is possible to achieve 3K temperature with lava upgrade, nichrome upgrade and a few reinforced machine casings. My furnace has no advanced casings.

Nice necro... two post having absolutely nothing to do with the OP's question or even the discussion at the point at which it left off.

There should be a necro counter in people's profiles next to their like counter, which counts how many times that person posted in threads dead three months or more.

Well advanced casings are quite expensive. So far I haven't even had to make one, which I'm glad for.

Except that nobody in this thread was asking about or discussing machine casings at any point... and the OP is using GregTech 2.73, for which your advice involving heating coil upgrades doesn't even work. That is what I meant with "unrelated".

Well it depends on your point of view. I personally find that the non-usage of advanced machine casings isn't a problem. I have yet to use one and I am quite okay.

if you're using calclavia's MFFS, there is now a recipe that makes steel dust (or clump or whatever the thing is) for 4 coal and 1 iron, and if you smelt that it makes 2 steel ingots

Really? I hadn't noticed that, I'll definitely look into it. It sounds like steel can come from a lot of places. Hmm, interesting.

I actually found that I screwed up my railcraft config file back then which is why the steel stuff didn't work. I fixed it by deleted the railcraft config file and letting it recreate. I haven't been on that world in months.
