Hey guys, i run a small Minecraft server for me and my friends, problem is, some of them live in different countries and/or different time zones in my country. I usually get around 5 - 6 of them to play every day (11 different players have logged in total since I started it). Since running my PC in my room is loud (I wake at even the smallest noise) and also costs quite a lot in power (25 cents per kw/h) i have been recently looking around for a VPS. This is the best deal I could find:
http://lowendbox.com/blog/hostus-18quarter-6gb-and-10quarter-1gb-openvz-vps-in-atlanta/
It would be greatly appreciated if you guys could give me some feedback if this is a good platform to set the server up. I have contacted their customer support and they have said that unless I am maxing the CPU out 24/7 (It is fair share), Minecraft servers are fine.

Please do not fight with each other over what you think is better (Ramdisk vs SSD vs HDD is a great example of this), i just want feedback

Also, I am running Direwolf20 Pack 1.6.4 and I have also added in the Chisel mod since the connected textures blocks are amazing.

Unless you know what you are doing a VPS can be a little annoying.
If costs are a concern have you though about a MC hosting company like CreeperHost, DemonVps(They do MC Servers), or PytoHost. All these have some level of support for getting a FTB server going

I used to use Virpus, but they got a bit expensive. LowEndBox is the best place to begin looking, you will also need more ram than you think. Prob 3gb ram because its not just running Minecraft.
Any VPS on Xen or KVM should be fine!

thank you, final question, should i be looking at a windows or linux vps? i have no experience with setting up minecraft servers on linux so im not sure how that will turn out[DOUBLEPOST=1407553676][/DOUBLEPOST]also, virpus is very exensive, 20 (linux) and 25 (windows) per month is much more than i'm willing to pay[DOUBLEPOST=1407553749][/DOUBLEPOST]and linode is even more expensive :/

Go with Linux, it uses less resources. Honestly, Virpus is about as dirt cheap as you can get. Electricity and server hardware is not cheap, so expecting less than $5 per GB per month is outrageous unless you're renting a dedicated machine.

Sweet, thanks for everything, i'll speak with my parents and see if 20 bucks a month is ok with them. Other than that, will installing it on linux be the same as i currently have it on my computer (windows 7)

you may want to look into OVH it is what I use for my servers as they seem to be reliable and cheap
http://www.ovh.com/ca/en/vps/vps-classic.xml
$22 a month for 100GB RAID 10 SSD
8GB Ram
4 Virtual cores
10TB Badwidth
Downside it is OpenVZ but I have not had that many problems getting it running well I can have some hefty servers running on my vps
