What's the best low-lag pipes for transporting water around? I have a bunch of RotaryCraft steam engines to run and a little bit of lubricant to move. Don't need to move a crap-ton, just need to supply all the engines with a bit on a regular basis.

Currently I use ExtraUtils pipes, but IDK if they're the best way to go.
Going to relocate my RotaryCraft setup to somewhere a ways away and teleport back and forth anyway.

If the best still causes significant lag, I could swap for lava+cooling fin, assuming it's just as effective(iron cost is meh at this point).

I'm partial to fluidducts from Thermal Expansion. I know that mod has been carefully coded to be server friendly. Go for the opaque ones if you want to minimize fps lag. Or you could just slap tesseracts everywhere.

XU pipes are coded to be amongst the best options, and work well for what you are describing. I used TE Fluiducts in my last RoC play with ease and style. Hell, even BC pipes have been optimized to be low lag at this point.

If all you are doing is moving water into Steam Engines and a bit of Lubricant, the pipes are hardly going to affect the lag on your system. If your piping gets crazy and convoluted, maybe it becomes an issue (when pipes need to choose a path over others, a pipe is pushing to an full inventory, etc), but for something this basic, I wouldn't worry about it.

While I've often seen claims that TE is more efficient, I can't recall any of them having actual measurements (although it's most likely that I've just forgotten one or more that did), the closest being that BuildCraft item pipes were considered slow at least partially because spilled items used to be a huge issue years ago.

Would you happen to have a link to an in-game comparison made within the past year? I'd personally be interested to see not only whether TE is still better, but also how much the different mods vary.

From the few actual numbers I've seen posted about these forums on the subject, XU has been traditionally the lowest lag system for most applications (Ender-Thermatic Pump vs other Lava pumps, EnderQuarry vs BC Quarry, Transfer Nodes vs infinite cobble/water gen). The way Tema coded things was very efficient for pathing and other common problems (backstuffing, dropping items, infinite loops, etc). Of course, Tema's fingerprints are all over the Thermal Dynamics ducts, so similar claims apply.

I would love to see an actual breakdown of a complex sorting and delivery system with each mod's pipes, but I've not the time nor inclination to lead such a study myself. For now, I trust that the bigger mods have done everything they can to optimize the code, and don't worry about it until I have a system that actually shows signs of inefficiency.
