So I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I figured safer here then locked and moved by posting it in tech support. Anyways to the point..
I'm currently running a Direwolf20 server for me and 1 other friend every once in a great while we have a 3rd person log on but its mainly just the 2 of us building castles in the sky.. wait, oh yeah where was I... Oh so I was wondering what server would be recommended for this pack? I hear 2gb some say 3 I say 512 because I'm cheap but what I want and what I need are two different things. What is recommended, I assumed because FTB is a huge fan of Creeper host that I would get some good help here.
I have a decent system 2700k overclocked, 680gtx, 32gb ram, Samsung ssd 5MB up/100 down fiber optic cable. I still have issues for some reason, so I ran a single player copying the map over from my server and was smooth as glass, like smooth glass not that stained glass stuff.
Thanks a bunch! :)

Yeah I knew I could probably do that but I thought I would get some idea's from an outside party that has experience with their services and packages.

I would go for slime but if your going to start exploring a lot and want to make big machines then consider zombie

I do have a zombie server! But through stress test it tends to crash with TrainCraft !!

Well, it really depends. I've used CreeperHost on two occasions. The first time was running a Bukkit server, and I had constant crashing and CPU issues with intermixed random downtimes. That was about a year ago. I went back to see if they got better about 6 months ago with a Tekkit server, and had the exact same issues as previously. Seeing as FTB hosts their files with them and it seems every other time I try to go download FTB or a mod pack that their servers are down, I'd say they'd have to be one of the worst providers to host with.

I can tell you now that if you go cheap you're going to get crap (and even CreeperHost is expensive for the resources they offer). It took me literally less than five minutes on Google to find a VPS provider that's cheaper than them. I'm looking at a 512 MB instance for $15/year ($1.25 a month), about three times less than the equivalent CreeperHost and I know for a fact this company offers good service because I've used them before. Anyways, just food for thought before you regret jumping on the bandwagon :)

Well dont just leave us hanging, What "amazing" host is this? And how many people do you run your server with and how is the lag?

Please read the rules before making useless responses to my posts. Furthermore, I said I "used them before" not "hosted a Minecraft server with them before." I'm a freelance programmer and rent VPS instances for various tasks, so I'm familiar with several companies.

However, to answer your question, right now I run a dedicated dual quad core @ 2.5GHZ, 8GB, 100mbit, unmetered, 2 TB HD space that has been stress tested to roughly 30 concurrent players (~100ms average ping) on the latest MindCrack pack for about $40/month (CreeperHost could only dream of hosting that :p).

No need for the disrespect man. I understand that you are not allowed to advertise anything but creeperhost and all, however I was hoping for some easy way of finding this host you were talking about or at least a PM or something.

As far as miss reading your post, I just kinda assumed that sense this thread was about minecraft hosts, and the fact that you mention you ran several minecraft servers before that this you had or have had a modded minecraft server with them.

CreeperHost is expensive. Some friends and I wanted to play a small server and just couldn't justify going with them. However, the main thing they have going for them is flexibility. A lot of the hosts which are cheaper run the server completely behind closed doors. No ftp, no SSH, no direct server access of any kind. You play vanilla, or with (usually a half dozen) mods they've decided to support ahead of time.

We did end up finding a $10/month host which gave us 512mb of RAM, 5 player slots, included mumble, and full ftp and SSH access. They allowed adding extra slots for $2/month each, and scaled the memory allowances to compensate. It worked well for a small server where only two or three of us tended to be playing, even with a lot of machinery going, but I don't know how well it scales as we never had any reason to upgrade.

You mean you configured your server wrong, or used outdated software which caused your server to crash? Understandable.

No, I had to put in a couple of support tickets when the node crashed. I think one or two times was a problem in the datacenter, and I specifically remember a couple of times were due to someone running some abusive software on the node. It's quite hard to configure a Bukkit server wrong that only has 2 - 3 plugins which were incredibly stable and used by thousands of people with no issues. Trust me, I remember that "outdated software" crap. The first response to every single ticket I opened was "are all your plugins updated?"

Can't recall anything like that happening, seems like you are the only one with issues, sorry you experienced that. If you ever need help/knowledge in setting up and configuring plugins, let me know, I'll do it for free as a Christmas present.

Your machine is more than capable of hosting if you go that route. Your electricity bill increase is probably going to be what you would spend on a host. How much ram are you allocating to the server? The first 30 minutes or so may be a little choppy while the world is generating.
I have an older i7 (920) with 24gb of ram and an OCZ agility 4 SSD running a 45 player server (since February) and the only lag is when my shitty ISP decides to act up. I would advise against setting up a virtual machine to host the server. Unless you're running bare-metal VMs (like ESXI) then the performance is going to get hammered.
