Looking for a laptop to run FTB Unleashed

I just bought the Dell Inspiron 15 with the Intel Core i7-4510U and 8gb of ram. Right now it is absolutely amazing, running at a steady 75 FPS. This is a personal decision but i really dont like the case/outer hardware on the laptop. Im wondering which laptop i should get to replace this one after i return it. i was thinking something like the HP 17.3 Touchscreen Notebook

i am looking for something on the cheap but not too cheap, i7 or the equivalent for AMD.

Lol you don't need an i7, or even an i5 to run modded MC. The only difference between the i3, i5, and i7 is the number of cores and threads. And lets face it, Minecraft can't use more then 2 threads, so an i7 does it no good. The one you are planning on getting is a major downgrade from your current laptop, by the way. Don't do it.

4 slow cars are still no good if you can only drive one at the time... A 2.1GHz is rather slow for gaming... We are talking 4+ GHz processors for desktops in these days.

That laptop you linked is a weird freak mix of clearly mobile long battery life device and then trying to be "beafy" at the same time. Like Quadcore and 2GB GFX, but only 2.1GHz processor and the low screen resolution of 1600 x 900...

You're right about the 4 cars thing. You're also right about the laptop. Do you have any recommendations for me? And a question i also have is whats better for a laptop, AMD or Intel? I have a the Dell Inspiron 15 linked below, its really nice but i dont like the casing its in as i said above.

Do you REALLY need it to be a laptop? You gain SO much more performance for much less money in a desktop.

I am a great advocate of buying a proper gaming desktop and then getting a dedicated more focused(and as it happens much cheaper) laptop for work/study.

I would prefer it to be a laptop, but a desktop does seem a lot better. The website you showed me has defiantly opened my eyes on the topic. i think i might return my dell to best buy and get the grizzly

You might want to look around a bit for some updated guides. Not sure how old this one is. Might be some better deals out there now for some of the components.

although in CAD the grizzly would cost me over $1000. i dont have have kind of money to spend, thats why i got the dell. The only PC that i would be able to get with the money i have would be the jackal and even that is WAY below what i have now. Any other idea's?

I dont know if you linked the wrong Dell, but the Jackal is better in every aspect except not being portable. Most notable the Dell you linked only got an integrated graphics chip(aka no dedicated graphics card, it is a web surfing/video browsing laptop).

Build your own. I can make a parts list for you that would decimate any of those computers.

Boom. Add in another 150 dollars for monitor, keyboard, and mouse. You can subtract 100 dollars if you already have a copy of windows you can use. This build will butcher minecraft(and can even play other games as well!)
P.S. The i5 in this build murders the i7 in that laptop.

Mmhmm. I built my own computer a couple days ago. For the price of a slow dell I have a lean, mean, gaming machine that can max out minecraft, TF2, Garrys Mod, and KSP and play many other games at high or medium settings.

Bulid your own for sure if your going desktop and dont worry if you don't know how there are plenty of videos out there and besides most of it is just pluging in cables the hardest thing is proballly cable managment

Indeed and with relative few means you can update it over time to keep it running for years. Like I would strongly recommend investing in a SSD whenever means becomes available for the OP. Even a small'ish one just for OS and select games. On laptops you are forced with the choice between the performance of a SSD and the storage of a conventional disk due to only having one bay. I couldn't live with that for my only/main PC.

At this point, I've got no idea what to do. i just talked to my dad, emailed him different computers that both of you have emailed me and he has come to the conclusion that i should just keep the computer i have now, upgrade the ram and keep it. I agree with him because he has built many computers and has had a lot of experience with PC building and buying due to the fact that he is an Computer Technician. Im torn right now, i cant decide what i should do, return this pc to build one or keep it and upgrade the ram.

I would still build one or atleast trade it for a desktop computer just becuase they are much easier to keep going over the years with mabye one upgrade a year
