I'm interested in possibly hosting an FTB server. However I don't really know anything about doing so, lol. I've hosted a simple little one for me and my friends, but nothing that had any extra mods or banned items or anything like that. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me a link to something along the line of "How to Host an FTB Server for Dummies" kind of a thing. I'm quite computer savy, but I don't know how to do any coding or anything like that, if it matters.

In it's fundamentals, there aren't a lot of differences. The launcher makes getting the files easy (download, unzip, run), and the config files are self- contained, and function in SSP the same as SMP. If you're running a small one between friends, banned items may not be needed, just a word-to-the-wise regarding chunk loaders and server load.

Can't help you hugely if you are wanting to get into the permissions plugins, I'm afraid.

Like I said, I've done a small one for friends. But there were no extra plugins, no extra mods, no pregenerated world. It was just a basic game that other people could join. But the multiplayer server I used to play on (sadly it shut down due to lack of funds :-( ) had all that stuff. It had towny, it had a economy mod, banned items, various ranks, a pregenerated world and a world map you could look at on the website, mcmmo... I'd like to learn how to do all that stuff. I'd like to learn how to run a server that could eventually become a public one. I'd start off small with just friends, but then take it up in stages.

I would look up "how to run a MCPC server" which is basically how to run a modded Minecraft server, I hoped this helped and good luck with your server. ^.^

Unless I am missing something or completely inept at this... that didn't really help. The only thing I came across was a video showing how to do it via multicraft. But honestly, just trying to figure out how to use that made me want to bash my head into a wall... lol. Every time I tried logging in, it said it was the wrong password.

Setting up a basic server is really quite easy. And it seems from there I'm supposed to take the MCPC jar file, rename it, and then replace the ftbsever.jar file with it. But once I do that... no server. Even before I've added any mods.
