Long loading time when switching Worlds

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Details of the issue Hi there,

I've got a quite annoying issue: I am playing on a server and experiencing the following:
When joining the server, swicthing between worlds (portals) or teleporting long distances it takes about 20 seconds for all actions to 'keep up' on my client or until I can interact with anything: doors, buttons, chests or even try to fly with the Angel Ring. For example: I teleport to the farm world, I instantly have the world, I can move around (but not fly), but when I destroy a block it takes 20 seconds until everything is fast paced for a second: the block drops, I hear all animal-sounds at once, the animals all start moving very fast and suddenly everything works fine.
Sometimes that issue varies a bit and I keep getting teleported back to the portal for those 20 seconds of - let me call it 'loading time'. I tried around in a single-player world but no issues there, probably because it was a new world :/

I really would like to blame the server, but none of the other players have that issue and pinging the server gives me a steady 30ms ping. It's also the first time I have that issue, I was playing on 2 other servers before without issues.
Maybe one more thing: I am the only person using the twitch app, the others use the ftb launcher, but I can't imagine this being the issue.

Specs (PC is 6 years old, got new RAM and GPU inbetween):
CPU: i7 (never at it's limit)
RAM: 2x8GB DDR3 (I was wondering if the RAM is simply too slow?)
SSD: 120 GB (I already moved the FTB installation from one hard-drive to another, nothing changed)
GPU: GTX 760Ti
Internet: 70 Mbit down / 10 Mbit up
Newest Version of the twitch app, assigned about 10GB RAM to Minecraft (could it be that's too much?, it normally just takes about 5-6GB in the taskmanager)
Java x64 7.111 (don't kill me, I know it's old) <-- probably should be my first step (but why did it work on other servers before?), which version is recommended?

I was looking at the temperatures of CPU, RAM, SSD and GPU when playing and there doesn't seem to be anything warmer than usual.

I hope you guys can help me :)

Make sure your drivers are up to date

10 is way too much, set it to 2-4gb (4-6 for newer packs)

About the actual usage of java, the number you allocate to the game is the minimum and maximum for the game, then the java engine needs RAM as well, so that's why you sometimes see that java uses more than you allocated - and this is perfectly normal and as it should be

Java x64 7.111 (don't kill me, I know it's old) <-- probably should be my first step (but why did it work on other servers before?), which version is recommended?
Yea, updated that. Go for the latest java 8 64-bit (do not use 9 or 10, that will just not work)

If you still have issues, can you post full log as well - if you're unsure on how, instructions can be found here:

Alright, here I am again.

Since today everything got a lot worse, I can't play at all anymore, I join the server and it doesn't mater how long I wait, every action takes more than one minute. I can write a dot into the chat, for the other players it appears instantly, for me it takes over a minute to appear in the chat. I can see other player walking fine and if I remove a block they can see that and it instantly drops for them - I have to wait that minute.

I set the RAM to 4GB and I also updated my Java, unfortunately I don't see any difference.
As far as I know the initial modpack was slightly modified, but that shouldn't cause the issue because the other players can play just fine.
I am trying to include the link to my logs here but it doesn't let me...
The number behind the ftb-paste link is "/view/19801891"

Edit: I wrote a few more dots ('.') in the chat and they all show up on the server-side, but as I can see there's only one in the logs, I guess the logs pretty much have the same speed as my Minecraft-Client >_>

try this:
Win+R, "cmd", "ping %" (where % is server ip or name without any port, 192.168.1.1:65655 or game.host:22522 - ip is 192.168.1.1 and name if game.host)
and post a picture here.

Did that already, but here's the picture: https://i.imgur.com/v3G6Mog.png

So we figured out that since my last reply there's something around my area in the game that the server can't handle fast enough (we are all pretty close to each other, can't be me, the only machine I have is a 3x3x3 multiblock reactor), but our admin didn't have the time yet to take a look of what it could be. Other players going into the same area experience the same issues - delays that get more and more the longer you stay in that area. So let's say that one is done, the only issue left is the one when switching worlds - which is pretty much the same symptoms but not permanent and only the first 20 seconds... and only me.

Next time, please just give the full link.

Checking your log it looks like the one running the server have removed mods.

Question: is this server running over hamachi or any other VPN-service?

Next time, please just give the full link.
I tried. I forgot the link at first and I couldn't edit it in it gave me an error that my post would have 'spam' or something in it - I think that is because normally the post has to be accepted by an administrator here (because I am 'new') when having a link, but since it didn't have a link at first I couldn't edit it inside after it was already published.
The friend who's running the server has his very own machine, his own domain, etc. it can be accessed normally via internet, no VPN or Hamachi needed (he's a sys-admin) - basically now that you know the IP you could join too... eh no you couldn't he changed a little bit on the mods and we all used the serversync jar-file to synchronise with the server-mods.

Today we went through the world with Opius trying to figure out the issue (I mentioned earlier) that made me (and one other - another 2 players didn't experience any issues) having those serious delay-issues when entering a certain area. Here are 2 screens I made. One within the area, the other a little outside:
https://i.imgur.com/HRQl8jW.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/H09Jzbw.jpg

The ping outside the area is at 100ms - totally fine. As soon as I fly/walk into the area it gets higher and higher with every second. We seriously can't find ANY source that causes this. The ping to the friend's IP is totally fine (in the command line), that's also the IP that I use to connect to the server. He was running around and killed/got rid of a few things that delayed certain chunks by 300ms, but that's all. He was right next to me and didn't have any issue. Going to the Client timing and rendering Tiles, Entities and Events gives me a list that everything is below 1ms. Even in the network-tab there's no download/upload above 700KiB/s and that's something I can definitely handle with 70 Mbit download and 5 Mbit upload.
Forget the changing-worlds-issue this is way more annoying because I can't play at all - or I start moving my whole base away from the others, but then I can also play alone - I don't like that idea.

Did you also use the "run opis" button and checked the other tabs for information as well?

If opis picks it up, usually it can be found.

Also, check if you disable journeymap (disable the mod before load), and check if the issue is still there - you can enable the mod again after you checked.

I did use the run opis function, it couldn't find anything. So what I was doing was taking a stupid hour to mark an area of 21x21 chunks that I noticed I get issue when inside and told the admin to check the chunk that is right in the middle of that area. His opis didn't see anything either and the high ping/delay was still only on my side, but he got rid of 44 Servos (Thermal Dynamics) - the simple white ones - and everything was fine. So we figured out that issue (tho we don't know why it was only me that has the issue) and can go on to the next one - the 'changing worlds issue'. I am really sorry for causing that much of a headache :(

This is a long time ago, I guess I will never find out why this happened, but to give a last reply: I got myself a new PC, nor more client-sided issues so far.
