So I'm getting back into minecraft after a longish break and I'm having a bit of an issue with something involving logistics pipes.

So what I'm trying to do is set up a system that will smelt logs coming from my tree farm as needed and put the charcoal into a some steam dynamos. I have a crafting pipe on my furnace, provider pipes on my barrel of wood and supplier pipes on the dynamos and its cooking the charcoal just fine. The problem is it wont stop. All the dynamos have a full stack of charcoal in them and I have 6 extra stacks of charcoal sitting in my chests and yet it still keeps making more and more. I thought a supplier pipe would only request up to the number that you put in the interface?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

DW20 did a nice version of what I think your looking for in the new ForgeCraft 2 (if you can find it. The new FC2 didn't last long). If I can find the link I'l post it.

My appolgies, it was his SP series. When he linked his tree farm to his logistic pipes set up.

It's around the 24 min mark.

Hope this helps.

Set the supplier pipe to 'Partial', will request one at a time rather than a bunch at once which may resulot in more than one stack being put in the furnace. Try a chassis pipe with a provider module instead of a provider pipe, I've never used the provider pipe so that could be the issue. Try a supplier pipe on a chest and see if it stops after a set amount, could be a bug that a LP can't read the inventory of the steam dynamo because that setup seems fine...

I just use a couple of DSUs, and 2 seperate furnaces for charcoal production.

Treefarm stuff -> DSUs -> furnaces -> DSU -> Dynamo's

Using DSU means I don't have to worry about wood//charcoal stock amount (it both grows). 1 treefarm will keep 2 furnaces working non stop, produce exces charcoal and wood AND enough to feed the dynamos.

Never ever ever ever use natura trees in tree farms!!! Since 1.5 those saplings started merging into redwood trees over my treefarms and are huge huge huge pain in the ass. Use jungle trees or rubber trees (the not IC2 ones), you can use the rubber to make torches :)

With a forestry multi-block farm I have the wood I need and I also have the option of changinging that farm to something else. It may be a bit expensive to get running, but I think it's worth it. All the produce from that farm is processed into something else btw.

If you are fueling steam dynamo then charcoal is a bit of a waste of wood. Since you are processing it anyway then slabs or for in dw20, ic2 scaffolding are far better with TE3 mill.

Oh, even if you setup the logi correctly, the dynamos don't ever shutoff fully unless they either have no fuel or you've set the redstone control to turn them off (not the ignore) and they are getting the correct signal. They throttle down a great deal but even if no power is needed they will still use fuel (which in the system you've described will mean creating some more).
