Hey,

so i am getting a bit into sorting my stuff right now and i used to use pneumatic tubes and RP sorting system. I now use unleashed pack so i am looking for new way.

I looked at the logistic pipes then and i thought their are really cool but then found that you can do everything with ME even faster pretty much. Was wondering why you would want both / combine them. Are their functions that only one of them can do or is the energie consumption less with logistic pipes?

Don't see any use of logistic pipes ( apart of them that their are fun to play around with) when u can use ME.

best regards,
Jet

Personally I don't like not having barrels and chests laying about that I can open and look it. The jumble of the ME inventory screen just doesn't gel with knowing what chest has what if I need something.

as far as i can see you can connect your chest with me directly / same goes for barrels i think

ME has the compactness. Everything can be stored and moved in one little item where LP has physical chests to move. ME is also a bit more user friendly. Sometime LP can be a bit overbearing to learn and use.

A logistics pipe system has a few advantages though. It's very easy and cheap to expand your system without increasing the cost of it by much. You only need basic pipes to get things going. There are also a few tricks you can use with the requester pipe and an ender chest to get items you need on the go. Autocrafting is a bit easier though. You can have one block per recipe where an ME system requires a massive machine to build.

Logistics pipes do use less power to run and they don't drain power to operate continuously, they only drain a small amount of power per routing operation. This becomes a big advantage over applied energistics if you would otherwise be using a lot of import/export busses which are very power hungry. Logistics pipes is also better at managing machines, in my opinion, due mainly to chassis pipes, liquid logistics pipes and supplier pipes/passive supplier modules.

In my view, Applied Energistics is first and foremost an storage and crafting mod, while Logistics Pipes is a superior sorting and automation mod. That is why they mix so well because they have complimentary roles.

For remote access to your storage, Logistics Pipes (IMO) wins hands down. The remote orderer lets you request items and have them arrive regardless of your location with a bit of engineering, while AE's wireless access terminal does have a set range to it.

thanks, helped me :) was sort of thinking that way that i would make my storage with the logistic pipes since i love that mod item sorter module. and most likely a huge machine to craft my stuff in the basement.

a few more questions came in mine:

1. would love to have a chest that is always supplied with maybe 1 stack iron, and the rest would go to a diff rent chest. but also would love a provider to be integrated in it so i could pull it out for crafting if i am short on it. is their any way you can do that? their is only a passive supplier module. ( which sort of makes since since when u pull it out would go right back in)

2. whats the best way to pull stuff out of my me terminal into my logistic pipes. from lp to me its working but the other way around its not :(... found it out i guess it takes a remote control pipe / provider pipe and a request piper on my me interferance so it workds

well it seems to work that set up, but their is no way i could use one pipe for ( provider + supplier) or make the passive supplier into an active

Can't you use a Chassis pipe Mk.II (or higher) with a provider module and a supplier module? Or have I forgotten how LP works again?

I can't use AE because it just makes a mess out of my organization patterns. Every chest has a different LP's ModBased ItemSink for a diamond chest, that's separated from the stuff I have in lots (all in DSUs), so yes, I don't like AE for storing ModBased things. It's good for crafting and handling crap/trash items, like what would go in Default route. 1 ME Drive with 10 1k Storage cells is heaven!
