Hmmm, that would imply that your tank was the problem all along - not the tesseracts.
Did you initialize the tank by right-clicking on the valve?

Yep, had that string glow on it. Had 2 values: one on top for the tesseract and then one on the side to pump out the lava.

Well if the tank was indeed initialized (ie. you could actually open the GUI) and the only thing that you changed was to switch to an iron tank, then that's very bizarre.
I'm glad it's working now at least!
