A lot of people talk about it, slow wants it in ultimate and tech, but what is it?

Long story short, it is a science version of equivalent exchange 2 all over again, well at least for now (it is in pre-release)

The mod allows you to break down materials into their base compounds, then even further into their base elements. For example wood yields 8 cellulose which can be broken down into carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. The elements can then be recombined into different items, for instance the carbon from trees can then be turned into coal. Some compounds can even be drunk as potions (mostly poisonous). All the machines (only 2 for now) are powered through MJ providing a relativity minor cost to chemistry.

The first thing that comes to mind when you see a mod like this is balance and the amount of game breaking that came from EE2, and right know, this mod doesn't look all together in that regard. Granted it is in pre-release but still some of the low level chemicals are just ridiculous. The most basic element is carbon, the one carbon per coal, 4 stacks per diamond. This right there is kind of backwards, most mods (IC2, EE3) put the exchange rates at 64 coal per 1 diamond; but before you pass judgement, let me tell you about wood. Logs, as stated, yeild 8 cellulose, for a total of 48 carbon. Meaning that one log can make 48 coal, and a stack of wood make 7 Diamond! As stated this mod is in development and all the values are constantly changing. But still, 7 diamond.

Disregard that entire paragraph, as this mod is in pre-release (can't be said enough) and changes are sure to be made.

On a positive note this mod will be getting some cool features to come, a fully feature radiation system is in the works, as well as new ways to process chemicals. I have high hopes for this mod, don't get me wrong, but right now its just broken. I like this mod, its a very cool concept and most of the execution is spot on, but the ratios just need work.

I've played around with minechem before. The concept is very neat. Not having had any chemistry classes in school, everything is pretty much just "try everything together and see what does what". With EE3, you can already make diamonds with wood. The amount might just differ tho.

EE3 allows you to make diamonds from pretty much anything, but the one example I gave is a much higher exchange rate than EE offers

"the amount of game breaking that came from EE2"

That is only true for those who never heard the word self control. Just because something is exploitable doesn't mean it needs to be exploited. I wish I had the skill to port EE2 to 1.3.2+ I would do so and release it. EE3 is horrible...

Another thing playing a sandbox game for balance is just a stupid concept...

please use your amazing skills of self control to write in a colour that isn't the same as the background.

Indeed it is broken. 9 snow balls and a single essence dust gets you to the twilight forest and there you can get an uncrafting table to convert the empty bucket into 3 Iron.
Deconstruct a snowball for 1 h2o and synthesize a watermelon slice
Repeat 9 times. Craft a watermelon and deconstruct for 16 water 1 aspartic acid which I refer to as Sparta juice. And one cuvumouris thingy. The thingy can be crafted into a pumpkin by synthesis. A bucket of water comes from 16 water. 1 slice comes from 1 water. 9 slices equals spartan juice 16 more slices and a pumpkin. Which can be a snowman. And that snow golem makes infinite snow. Harvest stacks and turn them into melons. Repeat above steps. For free water and iron. And a jump iv haste iii potion. And pumpkin. Snowballs become melons pumpkins Sparta juice and iron. Oh so over powered lol.

Look behind you
I do rather like the idea of minechem. Indeed IRL, I somewhat enjoy working out what things are made of, in chemical terms, and seeing what goes into what.

Judging that you can make diamonds so easily, I can think of a couple balance points that could be done. Perhaps making the carbon cost for diamonds go way up, and also making the diamonds require a special compressor, a la real life.

Around... 16 months?

Ironically, I just began a new game of Lapito's Galacticraft yesterday... and guess what I found in that modpack? Minechem. That's synchronicity. I come here and somebody has necro'ed a 20 month old thread on the mod. :)

Of course, I just started and can't even get TE3 and some RF power going yet... so MineChem is a ways off for me still... but I mined a Uranium Ore that I noticed was from the MineChem worldgen so I'll likely be asking some questions once I get to that point. Soon. Always soon. :)

Also gotta learn Mekanism and Resonant Induction and Metallurgy. Fun, fun!

Doesn't really matter, as there would be no consequences, really, other than a couple people getting pissed off.[DOUBLEPOST=1406884481][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, sweet Jesus... I just looked back at some of the oldest posts... I recognise some of them...
