I'm building a bridge from one mountain to the next in my FTB LP. I'm at the point where it's time to start lighting it up and I had the awesome idea of using lava filled pipes to act as a railing and light source, but sadly lava in pipes produce no light what so ever. Is this a bug or intentional? I'd still like the idea of laval filled somethings lighting the way, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Pokefenn is correct that only Liquiducts alow for lighting via pipes.

if you dont want to go with piping there is always the simple dig a two deep pocket drop your lava in there and cover wtih glass you can do. Very old school. Or my favorate lava light thing is to dig a one deep line in your wall from top to bottom making sure you have a 1 deep pocket up top and down at the floor. Drop a lava block in the top and it will run down making a line of lava flush with the wall.

Awesome, I'll start working on that. Now all I need to do is get an enderchest set up, a punp, some tin capsules, and a machine to put the lava in the capsules!

For the machine, you want the liquid transposer.

If you wanted you could also go from pump -> liquid tessaract -> pipe.

you could also use the liquid void block from xycraft, then put a lava source block above with an empty space in between. The lava will flow down and be consumed by the void block, so you end up with a suspended lava source block.

I guess, having a lava sourceblock which is constantly emitting flowing blocks and another block that eats away those flowing blocks isn't very lag friendly.

as mentioned, the easiest (and fairly lag friendly) way are liquiducts filled with lava.

another (no lava involved) way of lighting the bridge would be those MFR road bricks. there is a glowstone-version of it too. http://ftbwiki.org/Road_Light the nice extra of those blocks is: you can run faster on them.
