Is there a way to move a lava lake from one place to another. Right now i am pumping into a tank, but i like the idea of a massive lake of lava under my base for fuel.

If you're in 1.4.7 still, you can use a redpower pump to transfer the lava source blocks from one place to another.
I agree with Endgamer.
1) Put grates in the lakes you're pumping to and from.
2) Connect them with tubing, and put a pump in the tubing line.
3) Power the pump, and give is a redstone signal, and it should start pumping, if the pump is the right way round.
