If things other then java are getting errors then it wouldn't be Java your connection seems to be messed up, one question how are you on the internet now?

and as always to help figure out the problem do these tasks first

Turn off you PC/Laptop
Unplug your Router/Modem for 2 mins
Turn on you PC/Laptop
Test again

If not reply back it is not working still and I or someone else on the forums will try to help you

but this doesn't seem to just be a problem with FTB for you

still freaking out. im in contact with WoT support as well over this, so hopefully it will work out before im driven to getting a new computer (which my parents dont want to do)
correct on the last bit. using a wired connection (laptop), provider is apogee, college network.

basically nothing can auto-connect. note at the end of the log i pasted, it wouldnt connect to pastebin.
none of the modpacks/texpacks/news load. WoT loads the game window, then crashes seconds laster.

one last bump, was working the problem with the tech guys from another game, and im pretty sure weve narrowed it down to the network/connection/firewall settings thats blocking my computer from letting stuff connect, despite my giving it permission to do so.
hideously outdated because i havent been able to run the windows update since 2011 w/o it completely breaking IE, my only browsing access atm. once the current issues are worked out, and if chrome works after the updates (thats another thing that isnt able to connect), gbye IE.

any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It is entirely possible that your college has blocked certain things or Ports. People playing on games can cause a lot of server traffic that maybe in the college's system admins mind, would be better used for educational purposes instead. On a side note you really need to make sure that you run a full AV scan with updated definitions to ensure that is not something more heinous. Also be sure to get all the updates to windows you can. You might want to see if you can take your laptop over to a friends house and see if you can update windows there.

As for a possible fix for minecraft at least, I do not see any mention that you followed the recommended install instructions guide. You should also be using the 64bit version of Java the link is provided in the guide.

connection issues are mostly my computer, roomates comp runs chrome and LoL just fine.
cant do ANY of the windows updates because it always breaks internet acess. maybe i can do it if i can get chrome working before/after so i can transition to it, but into then i cant.

Okay the internet connection problem was a given No windows updates in a few years so Can you get driver installs for you wifi card and/or ethernet port if there is one?

Do you have a virus protection on the laptop?

How old is this laptop may I ask?

I know some of these questions may be a little off topic but it allows me to know what I'm working with..

its fine.
I don't think that computer was in the best of shape, as the windows updates broke stuff.
I broke the screen (don't shoot nerf darts at them) and my new one works fine. at college, so replacement was a priority
ty for the help though.
