So I had the same issue with trhe same error output as Mattimus. I resolved it by performing all of the steps in this guide. I found I had a few versions of Java installed. Once I deleted them all and only installed the latest Java 7 build, the launcher opened properly. If this helps please spread the word. I've been seeing a lot of posts about this error.lately.

Thank you zzZombie, it works. I uninstalled all but the newest Java 6 and Java 7 Updates and now it works.

No I left Java 6 Update 30 on my machine and only uninstalled older updates of Java 6 and it worked. At least now the launcher starts and the DW20 pack is downloading.

I'm currently writing my Bachelor exams with Java and I don't want to change to much around. It worked, so I stopped uninstalling.

You have to uninstall all versions of Java, and only have Java 7.
I did exactly this, but I still get the same error for starting the launcher as well.

Hello guys,
I finally gave up and went to the helpful guys over at the FTB ticket support area and asked how my problem could be fixed they came back to me within two hours and gave me this link as a 'quick-fix' guide. It actually turned out to be really simple and i hope that it can help you guys.

Please follow these steps exactly: http://desk.feed-the-beast.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/54/0/basic-troubleshooting
