Welcome. Please follow this guide to install the launcher the recommended way. After following that guide if you are still experiencing problems click on the 'Paste my log to pastebin.com' button. This should place a link at the bottom of the log, you need to provide that link to us. It will allow us to see your log. If it does not create a link please post the information in the log to pastebin.com yourself and provide the link it gives. Look here so your log does not get deleted.

I also have this problem. I have followed your guide linked above but the issue is still reoccurring :(

As I pointed out before I have gone through all the steps with the exception of reinstalling Java since I'm using Java Portable and therefor only have the latest 64bit version present. And I doubt it's an issue with the portable version since it perfectly worked before the update and it perfectly works with the Mojang launcher (and 1.7.2 for that matter).

I have looked through many of the crash logs before and all of them have the NullPointerException somewhere before the FTB gui ios loaded.

I did the fix nexus has done but still getting problem. I deleted every minecraft file i have and still giving me problems.
http://pastebin.com/sdRuCpKH
didn't happen til the launcher said there was an update and I accepted it.
Edit: Something else I notice is that the launcher is still open but is not being displayed. Task manager says that the launcher is still running while trying to delete the launcher data.

Is it possible there is some corrupt/damaged launcher on some of the repo servers? Both the JAR file and the EXE I'm getting via my home connection appear to be different than those I get via the office line.

I forgot to bring them with me for a direct comparison but basically at home they are 800KB+ wherein the once I get at the office are below that (711KB JAR, 743KB EXE).

Never mind, the latest one I downloaded are the same.

I had the same issue as everyone else and I resolved it by uninstalling all versions of Java I had installed. I had JRE 7.45 as well as the JDK for my Eclipse environment, and a Java 6 version for some reason. I basically followed THIS guide by the letter and after the reboot, my launcher loaded properly. If this works please spread the word because I'm seeing a lot of posts with this same error.
