Launcher hangs at "Downloading pack data"

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title:
Launcher hangs at "Downloading pack data"
Launcher Version:
1.4.7
Modpack:
None yet
Modpack Version:
None yet
Log Link:
Details of the issue:
I have not been able to run FTB successfully on this machine. What happens:

1. I download and run the launcher (as .exe or as a .jar, same results)
2. The first time I try it, I am prompted to choose a directory and use c:\FTB
3. The launcher with the log window gets to "Downloading pack data" and hangs
4. The small popup screen shows an orange progress bar which fills to ~80% and hangs
5. Nothing else happens

I have checked the FTB launcher log file and it just sits after the last line:
[13:55:39] [INFO] LoadingDialog.advance:46: Downloading pack data
[13:55:39] [DEBUG] Benchmark.logBenchAs:73: Authlib DL Worker Init took 612 ms.

In my pasted log I waited less than 20 minutes, but with previous installs I'd waited over a half hour with no changes to the console text or the log file.

I have already tried:
- Deleting all existing FTB folders and apps
- Re-downloading the client as an exe, a jar, and even as an app file
- Changing the install path
- Uninstalling and reinstalling 64-bit java

What do I need to do to get this thing working?

First question: Why do you use OS X .app instead of .jar or .exe?

I have tried all three options, with exactly the same result. EXE, JAR, and even the JAR file that comes within the .app 'folder.' I just happened to use the Upload Log while doing the latter.

Retried it this morning, running the exe as administrator, and same results:

I have no idea if this is your issue, but under "Options, Advanced Options", you can change your "Download Location". I have not downloaded any packs for many months, but I noticed that it started taking AGES to just load the packs into the launcher. Changing it to automatic fixed that.
