lag with railcraft boilers?

so am just playing on my survival world, got some resources, built a railcraft boiler, and as soon as i got it down the fps drops massively when i walk away from the thing. up to 20 blocks and then it stops and runs smooth again. anybody knows what this is caused by?

i have tried moving the boiler (36H) and that didnt fix it.

im playing on the latest unleashed version but have manually added gregtech.

Personally, i have not had the issue from the boiler itself, ive had problems with the engines causing lag (I had 10 36hp boilers)
Do you have engines?
Are you using optifine?

i do have 16 steam engines(the best ones dont remember the name). i had optifine first then deleted it because it basically did nothing.

Same issue for me. I suspect the noise made by the engines as the fps drop stops when I stops earing it.

It wouldn't be the noise, that doesn't affect FPS. Its probably the rendering of the engines pumping and the particles, and if you use normal pipes the energy flow could cause some lag too.

It is the sound. You can try disabling sounds to see if it is. Solution to that is updating your LWJGL: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Update_LWJGL

How does sound affect FPS?

Because it's buggy and when you move 16 blocks away from the cause of a sound it will stop but since it is bugged it will almost freeze your game for a while. And of course sound affects FPS, it's being handled by the same computer. Granted it might not be a huge effect most of the time but this exact issue is a bug in LWJGL.

okay i got the latest version of lwjgl and now it runs smooth again even when i walk through portals at a nice 100 FPS
