Lag spikes and low FPS

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Title Lag spikes and low FPS

Launcher Type Twitch Desktop App

Modpack FTB Beyond

Modpack version Lastes recommended version (Default version by Twitch launcher)

Have you modified the pack? No

Link to log file -

Details of the issue Huge amount of lag spikes.

Every 5 seconds I can't play FTB Beyond for 2-3 seconds. Further I have a hge amount of lag (10-20fps default). With an good enough computer, I can play default Minecraft with 600fps.

I have already tried to download Optifine in the modpack but it didn't help, it boosts my fps with 5 or less but the lagspikes where staying.

I have also tried to change the Java arguments but they worked negative, probally I did it wrong.

My computer has a 8GB of ram and Windows 10.

Simple answer. Even though you may not like it. Get more RAM. You need about 5GB just to play Beyond only leaving 3GB for the OS. Not really enough for Windows 10. So the lag is probably memory paging to the hard disk.

Thanks for your answer,

I thought is already, do you think 16gb ram is enough for ftb beyond?

And do I need some other upgrades like SSD or video cart?

Bye,
Nathan

The main issues is the RAM and an SSD is always a good options to speed everything up in general. As for the video card that really depends on what you have. Minecraft is actually starting to use the card more. But the primary needs for it are still CPU speed and RAM.

BTW: What are the rest of your system specs. All you have really mentioned so far is RAM and OS.

With an good enough computer, I can play default Minecraft with 600fps.

Vanilla Minecraft is not that demanding that modded Minecraft is - so you can't really compare the two.

The CPU is one of the issues, the GPU might be as well - that plus the fact that you're running on HDD makes a few bottle necks.

The 8GB in total should be fine (ofc 16 would be better in total - but you should not give too much to the game either - around 4-6gb is enough), if you don't use a lot of other stuff that is demanding memory at the same time (that will cause more use of page-file = write/read on the disk more = slow drive).

If you can, get a SSD and use that - if you can't:
make sure your drive is healthy, defrag it if needed
restart your computer before play sessions and don't start other applications (make sure autostart of applications is at a min).
