I am running FTB ultimate on an alienware M17 standard, and I run it at about 10 FPS, after playing for less than an hour. This means I haven't really built anything yet, just filled a chest full of starting supplies. I already tried changing the modpack options to 13.25 GB of maximum memory (I have 16 total), and I need advice about what else to try.
My specs:
processor: i7-4800MQ CPU @ 2.7 GHz
memory/RAM: 16 GB
OS: 64 Bit Windows 7 home premium
hard drive capacity: 687 GB, 94.3 GB used[DOUBLEPOST=1388809465][/DOUBLEPOST]PS: there are of course no error messages associated with this problem.

That is waaaay too much RAM to give to FTB. Since you can allocate more than 1GB you seem to have 64bit Java, but make sure you have the latest version 7u45 and uninstall all other versions. Try about 5GB of RAM and these arguments.

I did what you said, then tried 2 GB. I am now wavering between 12-25 FPS, which is an improvement but not quite what I was hoping for. For the arguments, only the part with the FTB launcher applies if that is what I am using on a singleplayer world, right? Here's a link to the pastebin Ashzification asked for: http://pastebin.com/TVhcYve3

What does your laptop have for a video card? Also, assuming your system supports it (I'm guessing it should) your power settings on the laptop may be running FTB off of the graphics chip built into the processor itself instead of the dedicated graphics card on the laptop. Make sure you aren't on power saving mode and that when FTB is running its using the dedicated graphics card and not the onboard chip.

My laptop has a i7 3630QM processor which has the built-in Intel HD 4000 chip, as well as a Radeon 7970M card. With the 7970M card I'm getting anywhere from 40-60 FPS depending on where I am and what is going on, when I'm running on the Intel chip I'm lucky to break 15 FPS.

Thank you so much, it is working a lot better now. I deleted and reinstalled the FTB launcher in a folder on my desktop (I already have the most recent java 64 bit install, and the world I was on I didn't care about because it was a test area), and now I get between 40 and 120 FPS. The world I'm on now is new again, so if I run into further problems I'll post again, but this is a huge improvement. My graphics card is a NVIDEA GeForce GTX 770M, and the one thats built-in is a Intel(R) HD graphics 4600.

Make sure you have java set use your Nvidia card and not your intel one. Check the link below for help.

Since I am on Windows 7, the interface was more than a bit different, but I added java to the list in the program settings, and I think that list was defaulted to the Nvidia card. Instead of a simple choice between cards, I had a whole bunch of options to adjust. I also went down to the set physx configuration and set that to my Nvidia card.
