This seems like the best place to ask this.
I'm playing some LAN minecraft with my sister, running Mac OSX 10.6.8, which only supports Java 6. 4GB of ram. 3.06 GHz processor.
My minecraft gets super laggy sometimes to the point where I have to force command another fullscreen app to open so I can gain control over my mouse and force quit the sucker.
I figure that I have something off with my additional java arguments. Right now I just use the standard -XXermSize=256m command.
If you require a log, I will post one soon. One thing I notice is the constant "Memory is overburdened" message.
