It's true that I can't get mob heads normally with Redpower on?

I can't find more information about this.
Just want to be sure that with Redpower mod, the only way to get mob heads is by have a weapon with Vorpal enchant. It won't drop normally like vanilla?
Have been killing mobs for quite a while and it seems that I'm only getting it when I used my vorpal enchanted Vile Sword.
Trying to get wither skeleton heads for the nether star.

You can get them without Vorpal. Vorpal just GREATLY increases the chances. Heads are an extremely low drop chance normally.

I've collected a few wither skeleton heads with a regular, unenchanted ruby sword. I think the Vorpal enchant just makes getting heads more likely.

The only mob head that drops in normal vanilla is the Wither Skeleton and it is pretty low chance. Vorpal should increase that chance but Looting definitely does, actually.

No, vanilla survival minecraft only has access to the wither skeleton head. The other heads are creative only. Redpower's Vorpal enchant allows you access to the other heads.

I'm not sure vorpal even works for wither skeletons. I flew around our nether with a sword with looting and vorpal on it. I got heads from most of the pig men, and normal skeletons I killed while using it. I had still only found one wither skeleton skull after killing hundreds of them, so I decided instead to just get out a soul shard and my soulstealing sword, got enough kills on top of those for a tier 3 spawner, then sat in there with the vorpal sword for over an hour before I got another one.

Vorpal Doesn't affect wither skull drop rates. For that, you want a looting sword.

agreed with Oat. Just saw episode 13 of Direwolf's SMP LP and he didn't get a single with vorpal and it still has a low drop rate even with Looting III.

2.5% by default with an increase of 0.5% for each level of looting up to 4%. Not exactly the most wonderful rate in the world.

Not saying you shouldn't, but why would you want to?
The only heads you can get would be for decoration(or thaumcraft research).

Not necessarily at the moment. We'll see how long that exploit continues to exist, however.

And even if they fix the anvil exploit you might still be able to take vanilla skeleton spawners into the nether for a great source to level up your soul shard the old-fashioned way. I made 3 or 4 like that, takes less than a half hour each with 3-4 skeleton spawners.

Then again as it works now I consider the entire mod itself---Soul Shards---to be one giant exploit.

You can use any tier 5 shard and a tier 1 wither skeleton shard in an anvil to get a tier 5 wither skeleton shard.
