I was going to ask if a specific Item caused lag but instead of making more threads on each item in the future I figure I will ask all at once.

What Items do you know of in any of the mods that come in Mindcrack or the Direwolf that Are hard on servers or will cause lag?

Basically what are some things that folks can do to optimize there builds if they have a server that maybe doesn't have much ram? And What Items should they try to avoid using?

I've heard that Rp2 Relays will cause some lag.
I've also heard that Crystal chests can cause some framerate drops which seems to be true. If I go into a room with a bunch of crystal chest my fps drops by almost half compared to say diamond chests.

What about long lengths of things like Redstone energy conduit? Or Golden conductive pipes? I know lots of item pipes can cause lag. I have Additional pipes installed to try to cut down on lag by using phased pipes. ( With tesseracts now I can probably remove them tho )

Nether lava pumping will cause lag, due to liquid updates. Computercraft using lots of commands in short time periods (timers) will cause lag cause they sync to real world instead of the server, like RP2 timers will. Yep, RP2 timers do cause less lag, but they cause it too :p

Use insulated wiring when possible, it also helps to place a strong light source next to normal red alloy wire, I have heard it helps with lighting updates.

I heard the lag with timers was primarily caused by the light updates, and if countered with insulated wire/light sources nearby would not be a major cause of lag. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I've yet to have a ComputerCraft computer cause any sort of lag on my server. So, tonight, I'm going to have to try and get one hundred computers humming together with some note blocks.

Powered red alloy wire don't emit light in RP2 pr6, it could be true before.

Edit: From my previous tests it seems that update to any wire sends a packet to client per segment, no matter if it is red alloy, insulated or bundled cable, so don't do too much too quickly with your redstone in chunks where there are players.

Well it syncs to realtime, not to the server, so *technically* it should cause lag. Nothing noticeable until something like your setup shows up. Maybe try putting them onto Glowstone lamps? :p if the comps don't lag you, the lighting will :D

Leaves when graphics are in fancy.

What, it does induce quite a bit of lag in the redwood forests.

No? Just because it does a sleep in a separate thread doesn't mean it causes lag. It's actually the preferred way, over doing a busy wait.

What do you mean by "syncs to real time"? Are you talking about, as Hydra stated, how the sleep function deals with seconds versus ticks? If so, that isn't going to be an issue and (again) as Hydra stated, it is more optimal.

Relay will nerf your FPS just by existing. Tested this in single player, placing one reduces my FPS from 120 to 80.

Are you sure, that redwood forests also cause lag or are hard on the server? I always thought, that they only hamper your FPS, but nothing more.

A buildcraft quarry can also cause quite a bit of strain on the server especially if your quarrying at the largest size through an ocean or with another source of water in the quarry.
A small test shows that around 6 to 12 quarry's start to cause a considerable amount of lag on a small to medium sized server, 6 to 8 players.
