It would be nice to have a FTB power standard

It would take away the point to run different networks as whichever one is made the "core" power network would of course have the most favorable conversions and thus make the other two (or more) networks obsolete. Right now there ARE conversion methods (except to Blutricity and Blutricity to EU) but they are made lossy for a reason. I really can't stress enough that non-lossy conversions would more than likely throw the balance of one or more tech trees completely out of whack and cause rampant obsolescence.

If you want a universal power network in your single player game, no one's stopping you from throwing in the power converters mod, but there's no sense in throwing off server economies severely and trivializing half the mods in the pack for one or a few people's whims.

Well that's more of a problem with the way your brain works instead of the concept. You are free to do things however you want, no sense limiting people who want to be more seamless. And it wouldn't make the other mods obsolete, just their power system. May I suggest making everything compatible both ways? Much more work for the developer but would allow you to use all of your generators, engines and wiring in every mod in a seamless fashion.

My problem with that is, well, put simply: I don't envy whoever would be crazy enough to take on the job of balancing all the numbers coming and going for each system. As I mentioned earlier, each mod uses completely different scaling, and they're not all linear progressions either. EU ranges from <1 to 100+ depending on the generator type. I don't know the numbers for the Boiler off the top of my head, but it's rather hard to compare Uranium Cells to Fuel, especially as Uranium Cells are partly renewable and Fuel is not. The IC2 devs already tried to give reactors Steam output to allow an IC2 thing to power Steam Engines and to get EU out of it via the Railcraft Steam Turbines, basically turning Reactors into an upgrade of the Boiler. ...it didn't turn out so well. They actually wound up making it pretty useless in this case.

Mod developers like doing power there own separate ways, but at the same time, they have several items that are designed to add compatibility to other mods. Electrical engines and Blutric engines are a great example. There will be more in the future. There doesn't need to be a standard. Eventually the standard will be whatever each player wants it to be, if they even want a standard at all.
