Is vanilla mob spawning adjusted in FTB at all?

Basically I was pondering the mechanics of vanilla mob spawning in FTB, both from "dark room" style builds and spawners. (For various reasons I can't use SS spawners)

Now, does the chunk loader, keeping the chunk loaded, permit vanilla mobs to spawn, or will they still require a player to be near the spawn block for it to count as a possible spawning location? (SSP, FTB unleashed btw)
I'd also like to know if this counts for vanilla spawners, too. Do they require a player in the correct range to be active?

Now, should a player be required and a chunk loader not work, does FTB unleashed contain any mods by default that can keep.. I don't know, a "fake" player in place for the purposes of mob spawning?

Thanks for any answers. If this has been tested before it saves me doing it again.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Spawn mechanics haven't been directly changed- so spawners/darkrooms would work fine.

Player range would still be needed for both type of spawner- less than 16 for a spawner to activate. I think monsters despawn at around 128 blocks (this effects shards too).
Generally a well designed darkroom (a proper grinder) will outmatch any spawner based one.
Just remember that there's a total mob count for an area, and any mob (passive/monster/squid ect) will count towards said total; meaning those blue slimes from tinker's construct/natura or BoP witch can affect it.

From what I've read, a chunk loaded area with no spawners and no player nearby will not spawn mobs. If there's a spawner in the area, the mobs will spawn, then instantly despawn due to no players being nearby. However, if there is no player anywhere in the dimension, a chunk loaded spawner will spawn mobs which do not instantly despawn. As far as I know, this behaviour is the same for vanilla, SS and MFR spawners, and Extra Utilities Cursed Earth.

I don't know of any player-substitutes that can be placed to keep mobs spawning, so the best way I know of to make a fire-and-forget spawner is to put it into a dimension that you rarely visit.

So making a random stable age and unloading all of my vanilla spawners (GGun or Force wrench both work to collect spawners, right?) and build some kind of trap and/or portal gun/tesseract system to my base in the overworld (or a different age), the mobs will spawn, be killed or teleported, and then the spawner will keep going like so?

There are actually 3 mob counts, one for passive mobs, one for monsters and one for squids. They only affect natural spawning, not spawners.

Vanilla spawner won't spawn mobs without a player, but soulshard one with high enough level will. So your solution with separate age won't work for vanilla spawners. Also if you build soulshard trap remember that mobs don't despawn if there is no player in a dimension, so be very cautious on a server.

Checking the Minecraft Wiki suggests that Zjarek is correct and this won't work with vanilla spawners, which is a shame. The system may stilll work with Cursed Earth or MFR's Auto-Spawner, but I can't seem to find any further info on that, so it may need a bit of testing.

Just to confirm from my own experience (Unhinged server):

Set up a 9x9 cursed earth dark room with grinders. The chunk is loaded, however i've set it up away from my base (500 blocks away), no other players close by...and with other players still in the dimension...the mobs spawn and then are killed by the grinder. I know this for 2 reasons....my tank of monster essence continues to fill...and having left the setup overnight, I returned to 15 gold chests of enchanted armour.
