Is there a way to prevent weapons from breaking grass?

I hate accidentally breaking things like tall grass when I'm trying to kill something. This has frustrated me since I started playing the game. Is there a mod that prevents weapons from instantly breaking grass or, better yet, any tool except shears or similar?

I've looked into changing block hardness with Minetweaker or Tabula Rasa, but those mods either don't seem to let you change hardness or don't let you change existing blocks. Am I missing something?

the grass doesn't damage the tool when it breaks it.

i want a mod that makes swords go through grass without breaking it so i can kill chickens in one hit :\

I don't care about the durability. I just don't want to tear up the landscape, and I'm tired of trying to kite monsters so I can get a hot between grass blocks.

The grass not damaging a tool when you break it means that it has no hardness, therefore nothing to adjust... Probably could be modded but I doubt there's anything out there currently, it's kinda a niche market. Time to learn java(or just live with it)

Note that you can always bonemeal a grass block to get grass (and flowers) back.

I've noticed it but it's never bothered me except for when I'm going after spiders, then it can become a really annoying problem.

I made it for you. The Harder Grass mod sets the hardness of grass and tall grass to 1. The mod can be found here.

Unfortunately that still leaves things like BoP plants. Would it be possible to loop through all blocks and ensure hardness is at least 1 if the preferred tool is shears?

So does this mean you'll swing at [near] indestructible grass while a chicken hides inside the grass' hitbox?

The main difference is that grass becomes harder only when you mine it with a sword. If you punch it with anything else, it's going to break instantly.
Also, it should also work on grass from other mods, too.

This is literally, without exaggeration, the best Minecraft mod I've ever used. I loaded a world and just ran around for a couple minutes hitting grass with a sword, I was so happy.
