I'm looking for a modpack that has all of the Unleashed stuff (or more!) but with the added progression styling of GregTech. I know I can add GregTech to Unleashed, but that doesn't change the mod recipes untouched by GregTech.

I like how in Unhinged there's a general progression path, with multiple options, and no one mod bypasses another, or renders it obsolete. I like having lots of stuff to do in mods but dislike how some mods completely neuter other mods. It reminds me of back in Technic with EE2 - once you got that going a little bit, you had infinite diamonds :| I don't prefer linear or non-linear progression, but I don't like the idea of "Why would I build X/Y/Z when I can just build [new mod item] which does it all for less resources!"

I doubt a modpack like this exists and I'll probably just run Unleashed/RR/whatever and just self-limit myself from the parts that I consider "too powerful" (a subjective term no doubt). But I figured I'd ask the community in case a "balanced" or "progression based" modpack, ala Unhinged, existed that had ALL of the nifty mods that Unleashed offers?

Thanks for reading.

Perhaps you could download unleashed and unhinged and then copy some of the configs over to your unleashed instance. I think Modular Powersuits and MFR are both configured to "Gregtech" recipes on unhinged so replacing the default configs of unleashed to the unhinged ones for some of the mods might be a good idea.

Fixed Typo - Thanks Runo

You could also try and set the offending "new mod that neuters other mods" to disabled in the launcher.

I second this notion. The only major offending mod is dart craft, since TiC doesn't trivialize much, plus the ore gen in unleashed.

Also, corrected a typo in the quote, surrounded with dashes.

What you are basically saying is that you like that Unhinged is designed with all mods in mind, and the interactions are done well, but you prefer the variety and scope of unleashed. Unfortunately, that variety comes with compatibility/balance issues. No mod is going to balance itself against all possible packs, and they're not going to sacrifice their content and progression for the sake of another, without a unifying influence (like GregTech).

Here's what I did. I left the vast majority of Unleashed alone. I added Openblocks because their tanks and elevators are awesome. I added Dartpatch 1.1 because it works on servers, I like using force saplings with MFR stuff and it seemed relatively balanced that one can't get force nuggets out if it in 1.1 whereas one can with a forestry multifarm. I also added Gregtech. Now how to deal with the OPness of Tinker's Construct Tools and Dartcraft with respect to IC2/Gregtech tools and machines, by making IC2/Gregtech OP! First I adjusted nuclear power to about 10 times the default so that it's actually worth doing anything with. Then I ran through every line of the Gregtech configs and made things easier to build, then I fixed the duping bug introduced by Tinker's by turning off storage block smelting, then I vastly decreased the processing time of everything in Gregtech as incentive to use Gregtech machines compared to anything else. It was really the only way to go because most other mods don't really have a lot of granularity to their configs whereas Gregtech can be made to be much harder OR much easier.

You balanced the mods by making GregTech easier? I would have done it the other way around, For example for Tinkerer's construct I would use this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1953828-162152-iguana-tweaks-for-tinkers-construct/ . For Dartcraft ... I don't know, probably disable it all together or make force shards only mineable with diamond level tools and make them drop only one per ore block, in combination with Iguana Tweaks this would make them balanced imo.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but there is one reasonable modpack to make with Gregtech is Unhinged. Everything else is... ill-advised. I say this as someone who had a modpack that combined old gregtech with Ars magica, so you know I am totally-insanity-wolf about this issue.

Most of unleashed is geared toward easy. It was easier (heh) to just make the hard config-able things easy than to try to make a mod that balances all the things in other mods that have no real difficulty-oriented configs.

A "hard" balance mod would have to have things like wooden plates for chests, impregnated endersteel plates for ender chests, TE machine frames would need structural rod bundles, force trees wouldn't grow unless pollinated by bees mutated in an apiary over a force ore block, all mj consuming machines would inherit the explosive properties of ic2 machines, factorization routers would require power, buildcraft pipes would require power, the tinker's smeltery would require power and tiers of bricks capable of containing higher degrees of heat, and so on.

Yes that's exactly it! But I see I'll probably have to fiddle with the configs and frankenstein my own pack together to do it.

Thank you all for the replies!
